Problem with cpu

I encountered this problem around the first of November '11 and couldn't find a way to fix it then just randomly remembered these forums so I'm hoping someone here might have a fix.

I was on my comp playing a game one night and clicked shut down then went to do some stuff before bed. I usually would always play this game (Flyff if it matters) and just click shut down after closing the game without thinking twice. Now after I did it this night everything seemed normal until the next morning when I went to turn on my comp and the power comes on and my monitor still comes on as well but my comp is acting as if my monitor isn't even plugged in since nothing will show on the screen. It also makes this strange clicking like noise twice when I turn it on, not sure if it's always done this since I never had a reason to pay attention before but it does now.

Anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it? I tried using a different spare cable with the blue connector for the monitor/comp since I had two and that was useless. I don't know much about comps so excuse the vague descriptions.

P.S. I have an HP Slimline s3100n. Thanks in advance for any solutions!

Hello . Sounds like repair shop time to me . Not sure there is a fix for this . Just to confirm, is it a click or a beeps. There are beep codes that will give an idea of an issue on start up.

Difficult to diagnose without seeing the computer, but a guess would be the hard drive.

if there's power to the monitor, and the hard drive was bad, shouldn't you at least be able to see the POST screen at startup?

Just asking, since i've never had it happen to me.

the explaination of the sound would lead me to believe it's the hard drive too. I've heard HD clicks and clatters throughout the years. Not sure what else would make that sound at startup (maybe a fan, but that wouldn't be enough to not let it at least start.).

Dont really know, but would guess yes. Im basing my answer on the clicks and symptoms.

Does this mean my hard drive is lost now? I had quite a bit of stuff on there...

You could always remove it, connect it to another computer and save the stuff .

That is , If it is still good at all, you could try a hard drive diagnostic with it connected via correct cables to another computer .

No idea at all on how to do that. I guess I'll have to see what a repair shop says. Speaking of which, does anyone have any idea how much this might cost?

Last time i took one to a repair shop,, Not big Name stores, but the Guy who runs a Repair Shop down the street.. Certified legal repair shop, not a dude at home. mind you. And he charged 30 bucks to diagnose it. said if i had him repair it. would take the 30 off the total cost.
