problem with hard drive

Hi guys I've been having some problem with my hard drive
that when I turn on my computer and check my hard drive free space
it always decreased by 1GB and I'm not sure why hard drive keep decreasing
over time..... I dont download stuff much as usual as before. I daily defrag my hard drive because of this....
is it because instead of turning it off just closing it down causing this problem? ( its a laptop)
I heard when a laptop is just closed down without shutting it off decreases hard drive's free space...
is there a way to increase hard drive free space caused by closing the laptop?
or is there a problem wiht my computer?

It is probalby shadow copies (restore points etc), but lets be sure.

You may want to run your anti virus and download and run malwarebytes. The long scan and update before scanning.

hi guys I'm adding some more that when I close the lid of my latop the setting is that it goes to
sleep mode and I hear that hibernation takes hard drive space. so is it diffrent or the same?
when I check disk cleanup hibernation file cleaner section has about 4GB of files. is it ok to delete it eventhough I close the lid? or should I just leave it there..?

Hi Richard.
I ran virus scan and got two virues infected into registry section.
also when I ran windirstat I had huge files of temp files about 20GB.
is it possible to delete those?

Dont delete anything, see what is inside. Put the mouse on the files to see what is inside. You may have to click on the files. If that does not work, go to the actual files and check them out.

Follow this tutorial. If you see in the lower left corner, included system files, check it. Run the scan 3 times

Make sure that you have also checked system restore points in disk cleanup.

After 3 runs with disc clean up and checking the box to include system restore points.

what do you mean by system files? do you mean in the list of files to delete?
and do I need to do system restore and shadow copies?

When you first go on to clean disc, in the bottom left there is a box to check (system files) if it is not there it may be just in Windows 7. I am using 7. Follow the Tutorial that I gave you. It will delete the shadow copies, except for the last one. You can make another at that point. Then the ccleaner will clean all the leftovers. You should have a nice clean HD at that point.

what things should I check on the list of files to delete? I got checked on dowloaded program files, temporary internet files, and thumbnails.

Check just temporary for now. After we are all done. Do winstat again and we will see how we make out.

I did defragment on hard drive and free space decreased again it is normal?

Lets finish the whole procedure and see how much space is used. We can go back and clean up the downloaded files, too. I did not do it this time because it normally does not take much space.
Lets get done with this and see what happens. Dont be concerned about the defrag. Lets see what happens when we are done. Have lot to do yet.
Let worry about the big piece now, Temporary files.

Do the cclean
Then give me a screen shot again.

We should get rid of most of the temporary files. and that is 20gb, right there.
