Problem with user account picture

Hello, I have a problem with windows vista that I cannot figure out alone. The problem is that when I try to change my user account picture to something else, it always reverts back to the default orange flower picture on log off or restart (it DOES change the login picture, but NOT the start menu or user account pictures). I have tried everything. I fixed it temporarily by copying the my user account picture to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and renaming it "user", but I want the ability to change it without going to that hassle. I found one "solution" that told me to run regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll but it gave me an error message ("The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry point DllUnregisterServer could not be found. Please make sure "shimgvw.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again." or something like that). Can anybody help? :(

Hello, I'm sorry your question hasn't been given ttention.

I believe your Windows Vista may have corrupt files. Try the following steps...

Open Command Prmopt (Start > Accesories > Command Line/Command Prompt) > Type in the command "Sfc /scannow" Without the quotes. It should then scan the system files and attempt to repair them. The following link has more information on it.

Thanks for your reply! I tried your suggestion and apparently "there were no integrity violations found."

Seems like your profile is corrupt somehow.
You can make a new user account and move your files
over using the shared folder.
Also make sure that your account has the rights to do that.
Either admin or regular user. Anything lower like limted or guest
can not change things.

Maybe you cant try another picture other than the flower one. Make a new account and set the picture for that one. If it works, then it is a problem with the account that the picture does not work on.

Hmm. I created a new user account, and this could be a mixed blessing. I changed the picture to my avatar and it did work. But are you sure this is the only option to take. Cause I have gigs and gigs worth of stuff I have to move and I could forget something (i've already consider the option to save everything to a folder on another user's desktop, but I want to do it manually). If this is the only thing I could do, i'll do it, but maybe there is a less radical fix I could try first?

Like I said use the shared user folder.
Move your stuff there Then go to the
new one open the shared folder there
and move the files to where you want them.
