problems with laptop

I've had this laptop for about 1 year. At first there was no overheating or anything, but now it tends to get very hot. After around one hour of usage something goes wrong with windows explorer, all the toolbars and everything inside the startbar start flashing. While that happens the computer gets very slow and I have to turn it off until it cools down. Recently I've noticed that when I turn it on the screen stays off for about 30 seconds while the rest of the system is on until the BIOS thing appears and the computer starts turning on. Now i have it laying on top of a bag full of ice and the flashing had stopped. What shall i do to get this fixed permanently?

Have you felt if the fans are running? Its common to lose them. If they are, You need to clean out the air ducks... I used a vacuumm to suck the inlet as i blew air into exhaust.

Youve probably got a big dust ball in there. Worse case is you will have to open up the case and clean it.

I also decided to defragment the hard drive, for that I downloaded defraggler. I left it all night working but this morning the disk was 40% fragmented and before i defragmented it according to defraggler it was only 30% fragmented. Apparently this program made everything worse because now the computer us running extremely slow and almost every program I open stops responding. I already cleaned the fan with a vaccum cleaner, and there was a lot of dust. Apparently the heating problem is solved.

Amazing what can be found in there eh....

Not sure about your slow issue, might be time to try a repair. Might be bad files due to your heat crashes.

i dont know why u r more fragged after a defrag, but i do know that 30 or 40 percent fragmented is waaaaaay too much...........norton 360 antivirus does my defragging and it wont defrag until im at about 13 percent.......then it usually defrags to about 5%

Don't over Defrag a HDD it is Healthy but don't do it continusely because you will end up Fragmenting it even More and Shortening the HDD Life

Many Thanks,
Josh
