Um, its not bad having high processes.
Depending what programs, and how you have them set up, will determine how many processes will run.
Trimming rarely used items will possibly speed things up, but its not detrimental to alot of them runniung.

I like to use this program at times , just to see them : Process Explorer
In view, i put check mark in Lower pane, and it show who the process belongs to. That program Rich suggested is very good. I love that program.
