The best psu's are from Antec or Corsair. I prefer Corsair, so look for an HX-750 modular psu. Its silver certified, very stable, and very clean.

The only one is stock in the store i mentioned is eXtreme Power Plus 500W.
Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

Will that be OK? I read in one forum that the "extreme power" series is not good. Is it true. Anyway how are Antec or Gigabyte PSUs?

Corsair has only one distributor here in India so the prices are indecent.

Details:

I have 2 front panel USB.

The humming more prominent with the mouse plugged to one of them.

There is no humming when connected to back ports.

There is no humming when a pen drive is connected to either of the front ports!

I tried another mouse on the front and that causes humming too.

The front panel is a single PCB with 2 USB and the headphone and mic jacks (AC97).

Please help me with this too.

Any of the 'name' brands are good. Some examples are Antec, Enermax, Seasonic (who make many of the 'branded' PSUs), PC Power & Cooling and many others. If you have a candidate, Google it with 'review' added to the search.

Monetary constrains currently stop me from getting a new PSU, but i removed one of my HDD to reduce the load on the PSU.

I also have a Q.

Room Temp 30 C
Mobo Temp 37

My CPU has a temp of 35 C in power saver mode (capped at 1000MHz 5-40%)
In High Perf (fixed at 100% 2500MHz), when i play games, the temp goes to 55 C.

My Q is will the rapid 20 C change damage my CPU due to thermal stress or is that normal. Because this 20 C change happens in about 1 minute.

55°C is not that unusual for a CPU and the temperature changes vs. time should not effect the average working life of the CPU.

i am happy to tell you that i re-applied my thermal grease today and im getting a temp of 49 C while playing games (for a 2 hour period, High performance mode). 6 C cooler than before with the same room temp of 30 C.

Mobo temp 39 C, 1 C higher, probably because of a change in fan placement. I now have a fan at the front of the case, on the bottom, blowing at the HDD. So now the hot HDD air must be moving into the case.

i guess its better to have a cooler HDD with a 1 C hotter mobo, than to have the HDD sweat alone. But i don't really know if the HDD is running any cooler, other than this not so reliable way of the hotter mobo.

I will have to disappoint when i talk about the thermal grease. I was using the grease the came on the AMD stock heat sink since Dec 2007. When i asked in a local PC store for some TC like AS or CM nano, they didnt have any. But they gave me a "Dow Corning TC-1996" 0.5g, which they had lying around, for free.

I checked online and i think it comes "with the Boxed Pentium® 4 and Boxed Celeron® processors in the 478-pin FC-PGA2 package" (according to the Intel site) and it sells for $7 on the net.

Anyway it seems to work better than the old one and i cleaned the heatsink too.

I have 3 Q:

1> I have a WD Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS ( http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=301 ) HDD, can i monitor its temp? Does it have SMART?

2> Its a SATA drive, it shows up as an SCSI drive. Is that right?

3>Where the CPU temp sensor is located?

1) I have yet to find a SATA drive that doesn't support S.M.A.R.T. Make sure that SMART is enabled in your BIOS and then try this program.

2) Yup, that is normal.

3) The temp sensor(s) for that CPU are in the core(s). You should be aware however that the temps related by the core sensors are a function of a reference temperature that only AMD knows for sure. I have found that if you apply a correction of +15°C, you are usually in the ballpark.

My Computer

SMART is still not working, i started a new topic.
