Realtek Audio driver problem

Ok, so I've read all the threads here that delas with Realtek audio problems, but none of them seem to solve my problem.

So here we go: None of the drivers on Realteks site works. When I download and install them I just get a overcrossed speaker symbol. It says: No audio device installed. But in the control panel it says it is installed and working correctly. And yes, I have uninstalled any previous drivers and restarted my computer. However, if I use the drivers on the CD that came with my motherboard, I can get the audio to work. But when I plug something in on the front, like headphones for example, a popup says something like: This driver is not designed for Windows Vista, please visit Realtek to install the correct driver.

Also, there is also a problem with the driver on the CD. With it installed, the audio works only 2 times out of 3 when I boot my computer. Extremely annoying.

Yep even i had this Problem with my onboard soundcard(Soundmax).
I kept trying different drivers to get my Front Panel Audio(FPA) to work(around 3-4 before one finally worked).

I suggest you stick to your CD Drivers for now and wait for New drivers or some workaround to be released.

I found the problem! It wasn't software problem. I have three different plugs on the cables from the front panel audio jack and I just discovered that I had plugged the contact with AC97 in to the motherboard. I just switched to the one saying HD and now everything works like a charm!

Hi LeoT! Can you explain in a little bit more detail. I'm using Realtek HD and my front pannel sockets (Phones/Mic) don't work at all. Those at the rear are fine but it's a tight squeeze getting round the back several times a week.

Seems your issue may relate to mine but I didn't build my system so I'm not totally sure. O/S is Vista Ultimate X64 running on 2 X 5600+ AMDs.

Any suggestions a big help and I have already downloaded the latest drivers for Realtek but not installed yet as I don't have any other sound issues - except I can't record.

i have recently purcahsed new system its

intel DG33FB mainboard
Q6600 2.4ghz quad core processor
4gb DDR800 ram
400gb harddisk
vista ultimate 64
creative inspiron T6100 speakers
now my mainboard comes with built in ALC888 realtek soundcard able to give 5.1 channel sound. and it works perfectly with windows XP. but with windows vista 64 i have tried all the realtek drivers from ver 1.41 to 1.90. none work if i turn it to 5.1 channel sysem. the sound manager keeps popping up dialog boxes tht you plugged in wire and than u unplugged the wire.... and sound comes in patches for 2 secs than silence for next 3....
the only thing that works is tht if i use vista sound driver tht only gives me 2.1 channel sound ... not more..... how to fix this?

I sympathise and hope you get a good reply here. I recently installed a new independant soundcard. With certain amount of sceptisism, I went for Creative's Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Audio PCI-E. Read a lot of bad things about creative in forums but I've had no huge problems and it's been 3 months now since I installed it. Have yet to buy a new speaker set up, so can only vouch for it working well on a sad 2.1 set up. Another critisism I have with this creative model is the software that boosts your mp3s etc. Crystalizer, they call it. For the most part, it sounds pretty impressive on those poor quality mp3s. However, on better quality mp3's (320kbs) I can detect the fluctuation of the high end sounds - they sound almost lifted and seperate. Also not all tracks need this feature because the frequensies effected sound correct in the first place. Another pont to make.: I had forgotten this effect (crystalizer) was active and made a tune of my own, and when I played it back on another device (CD player) it sounded dreadful. I learned my lesson! Disable it when making/mixing tunes! Because obviously what you hear when it's enabled is not the true sound.
