Refurbished?

What exactly is refurbished computer?
Is it good?Is it bad to buy one?

As I understand it, something was bad with it (hdd, RAM, Mobo, etc), the pc was sent back, they fix it and have to sell it as used now. It could be as good as a new one, perhaps better but warranty will be shorten by a lot.

I'm sure others will have a better answer though.

Get the extended warranty. They are returned for some reason. Repaired and resold. You don't know what this issues were. If its more than 70% the cost of the new one, get the new one.

Refurbished is a description of a product that was returned to manufacturer while within warranty or guarantee period because of some defect/s and has been factory restored to full function and resold at reduced price with shorter than new product warranty.

And then there is the so-called "repackaged": products that were returned to manufaturer shortly after sale for reason/s other than defects and resold at reduced price in generic package or labeled "repackaged". usually with warranty period like brand new product.

And then there is "refurbished/repackaged" which I am not clear about.

I have heard some stories about such products with previous owners' files and documents still in HD but otherwise functional, even good... for many years. I have no personal experience, myself. All my previous 4 notebooks were brand new and none lasted without major prob for more than 3 yrs. Up to this point, I am convinced laptops are good for just three yrs., tops.
