Resolution changing at login screen after boot

I have my screen resolution set to 1920x1200, native is set to this, nvidia control panel confirms it, yet every time I restart after a shutdown or an update, my screen resets to some random low resolution such as 1020x768 or 800x600 (the worst of the 2, it set the colors all funky). Every time after it does this, I have to go back and change the resolution back, and move all of my icons back to their places. I have tried everything to get rid of this problem, even such as to change the registry defaults for resolution. I have base video off, and all other solutions people seem to have do not work. I have had lots of experiences with computers, but this one has stumped me. If I missed a default or it is one of those things that just is so obvious that you overlook it, please post.

Hi scott

Go to this link and update all your drivers then reboot: Gateway Support - Drivers, Software and Firmware Updates

If the problem still exists then click on the vista start orb. In the search bar type Task Scheduler and hit enter. Next click on task scheduler library - microsoft - windows - mobile pc -TMM - then on the right side set it to disable. The reboot your pc.

so you have set the resolution here..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VIDEO\

and it still resets everytime?

have you disabled any startup items related to nvidia?

I think I may have solved the problem, I downloaded and installed the newest driver for my graphics card and I have not had it reset for 4 boot ups. Thanks for the help everyone, if the problem continues to persist, I'll have to try the other options. And on the gateway site, they didn't even have the P-7805u on the downloads and drivers list. They had the older versions of it. I guess since the P-7805u is a Best Buy sold only laptop it is not very well supported by Gateway?

Thanks Again,
Scott

Ok, problem is still happening but this time it is when i close the laptop with ir still running. Also, what file would I need to change in the registry under that path? Is it the one with the resolution at 1024x768?

I had this problem on my desktop also, Tried setting and re-setting the res in the registry but always wound up the same. Finally I tried disabling the nvidia services in computer manage, (win 'start' button, right click computer, manage, drill down to services on the bottom left). There's the Nvidia driver service and the stereoscopic 3d service, I disabled both as I don't have any plans for 3d.

Hoping that disabling the driver service does not have any other re-procussions, though it doesn't appear to so far (aside from not having the nvidia control panel). I have to use EVGA precision to keep my fan speed up so my9800 doesn't shut down and that is still working fine. So far so good.

You do know this is about a year and a half old eh?

But I fixed my issue with a new driver and not disabling services, as it only started after i had put a newr driver version in.
