Solved Restart issue

Hello

When I restart my laptop manually it works fine. But when my laptop restarts for other reasons (finishing installs/updates/windows update etc...) it doesn't work right.

After closing all the programs and shutting down windows, the laptop stays at a black screen in the end (it doesn't shut down). So I have to press the power button for a few seconds to shut it down and press again to start the laptop (no problems in startup).

Anyone got a clue? It's an Acer Aspire 6920G, Vista Home Premium x32

The only driver that needed to be installed was the integrated camera (which has a hardware fault so it won't work anyway). Everything else you mentioned is updated, I've double-checked.

How do I make it restart automatically now (instead of having to wait for windows update) :p? And if I get the same issue, what other suggestions are there?

edit: just restarted it manually, the same issue happens! :O ????

Thanks

OK,

What Windows updates have you installed? SP2 plus others..... Have you had any update failures during install?

Hi,

What version of Bios do you have?

Please provide a .txt file of the updates rather than a screen dump if you can. OK?

Hi,

The date of the released v1.16 version is 20/04/2010. Your using the same version but from an earlier date?

Try flashing with this later version & see if it helps: -

Download & select your notebook or go to: -

Driver Acer Aspire 6920-6920G Notebook for Windows Vista-7 | DriversTools

The BIOS download is at the bottom of the page. Note the comment on the reason for the update!

"Fixes MC sleep SMBus error to cause ARCADE power on."

So, does this include the power off too?

I downloaded that version and flashed the BIOS but system information still tells me that it's the: Acer V1.16 1/22/2010 version.

Anyway, I just restarted my laptop manually and it went fine, I'll come back here if the problem shows up again :) Thanks Lottiemansion! Added rep.

If you face the problem again, do system restore. When the system is restored, disable your anti-virus application and then reinstall the Update again.

Steps for system restore:

  1. Close and save any documents that you may have open.

  2. Click on the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:

  3. When the Start Menu opens click on the All Programs menu option.
  4. Click once on the Accessories Start Menu group.
  5. Click once on the System Tools Start Menu group.
  6. Click once on the System Restore icon. After you click on the icon, if a User Account Control window opens you should click on the Continue button.

Then select the exact restore point where you were not facing the problem.
