is it possible to retrieve deleted history on vista? Are there any settings I can use to ensure that that I don't accidentally delete browsing history in future?

To delete your browser history accidentally, would mean you have either pressed a few wrong buttons in sequence or you have a programme to delete them. Can you confirm what route you followed?

From Tools to Internet Options to Browsing History. Then I accidentally pressed Delete History and lost my history. I am using vista home premium 32.

nbains,

What is it you are actually trying to save? If there was any site in particular that you wanted to save wouldn't it be saved under favourites?

If you tell me what you want, I will help you out :)

Ideally I just want to retrieve my history - I had many weeks worth which I didn't save in favourites. I have tried system restore - with no success. Thanks.

In that case I think it is gone and forgotten. However, if you go to the browser window and place your curson in the box and press the down arrow, should should get a list of previous sites.

I hope this works for you. Let me know.

Hi. For some reason no sites appear when I follow your instructions. I think I even lost that list of sites in the browser window because I was trying to search for ways to find temporary files and history in C drive via the browser window - and any other previous sites listed in the browser window have gone! On another posting someone has mentioned that they recoverd their browsing history by clicking on 'show hidden files and folders' and by unchecking hide extensions for known file types and unchecking hide protected operating system files. And then by downloading index.dat reader - but which one? What do you think? Thanks.

cant hurt but first just check to see if your index.dat was modified on the day you deleted them.
