Solved Restore SoftwareDistribution Folder?

Long story short after the last round of updates I corrupted my Vista VM. I copied the original hard drive file to my 7 VM and restored the data just in case I couldn't get windows back. When doing so I had to run chkdsk which fixed some problems and allowed me to recover what few files I have in the VM. Today I did a repair by booting into the installation disk and selecting the repair option. I am back and operational but I no longer have my update history since my SoftwareDistribution folder has been replaced. I can access the original hard drive file and recover that folder provided that it isn't corrupt. Should I do that or is it not worth the risk? At this point Windows has no idea if updates have ever been installed and based on what happened I'm not sure if the last round of updates where retained.

So when you enabled the Windows Update service, and checked again for updates, did it recreate a Datastore.edb file? That should contain what updates are installed and then generate a list of what updates are now needed.
