First, I was finally able to get Check Disk to run. It took a long time and I sat right by the computer so I wouldn't miss anything. There was no indication shown of any problems. However, I found reference to a command you can type into the Start box to get a log file of these Check Disk scans. The command is sfcdetails.txt Following is what it said:
Note The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details from every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file includes information about files that were not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Verify the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found the last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.
OK - so why is there no info on the page regarding the scan I ran in the wee hours of this morning? In fact, the only date on it is 2-23-2011, and I have run Check Disk a number of times.
Next, your question: Is Run as administrator missing from the context menu of any other application files? I can go to the start menu and anything I have pinned there DOES have
Run as administrator (RAS) on the right-click menu. Also, when I open All Programs, I can right click within that and RAS is on the menu. But nowhere else on my computer can I get this command through the right-click menu -- not from the desk top, not from within Program Files in C drive.
I feel I need to explain further. The way this all started was over my Avast Internet Security right-click scan option and I think that and this has to be tied to one problem, whatever it is. I discovered when I would right click an item and then select to scan that item with Avast, it was not performing a scan. I have always saved all email attachments to my desktop and then scanned with Avast before opening. I could no longer do that. Through the right-click menu, I can scan some things -- like exe files, program files -- but I can NOT scan jpg, wmv, zip, pps ....... Unless I place them in a FOLDER first. I can right-click the folder and select to scan it with Avast and it will then scan all the items within the folder -- but it will not scan an individual item. The KEY is having the items inside a folder first, and then selecting the folder to scan. Just like the KEY to
run as administrator seems to be to have it in the Start menu. Doesn't make any sense. Please see what is listed for zip in attached screenshot. I created a zip file and it seemed to go fine, except for another bit of strangeness. When I created it I click 7-Zip, which was BOLDED in the menu and nothing was there. Then I went to
Send to and selected zip folder and all went well. When I tried to unzip it I selected
Extract all and nothing happened. Then, I had to go to 7-Zip to get it to extract. There is just something very strange going on here. I am typing paragraphs, but when I clicked on
Preview everything was all run together which made if very hard to read. I again split things up but don't know if it will stay that way.
