Can you run a virus scan from safe mode? If so try.

A lot of good ideas here. Most of them I would have suggested. Its best to give them to you all at once so you can work at your own pace.

Pay attention to the suggestion about SFC, that may work.

Good luck. Ill be here when you are ready.

Vista only starts on safe mode: I've tried nearly everything!

Do you have the Vista DVD?

If so there are other things we can try before you reinstall.

Look at my last post, Instructions for a repair install using the DVD. Try scannow first, if that does not work try the repair install.

Hello DNIPIC,
Did this PC just start booting in to safe mode on its own, or is safe mode the only way you can get it to boot, and do you have "safe mode" written on the screen ?.
What happens when you try to boot normally ?.

As richc46 said, when you find the Vista DVD/CD follow this tutorial.

I shut down computer through normal course (start shut down etc.)
When I turned it on next day it came on in the safe mode and I cannot get the computer to reboot in normal mode at all.

Go to start > run > type "msconfig" (no quotes) and look in "boot" tab, and just check that "/SAFEBOOT" isn't checked.

The only thing i can think of is to get a Vista DVD/CD and try a startup repair.
After exhausting all other types of repair, every repair from now on, (for this type of error), requires a disk
.45 always works for me too.

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this too. A friend used my computer and visited fubar, the next day when I restarted my computer it was in safe mode. I've been trying to restore, have tried hitting F8 when restarting, rebooting, everything. I have been stuck in safe mode for four days. The computer came with Vista already installed so I do not have a windows disk to reinstall. My restores aren't working either. I'm afraid that the only option I have is to re-install the gateway operating disk and start over, though I may loose all of my programs. If anyone knows of another option I'd greatly appreciate it! I've planned on upgrading to windows 7 but I'd like to try something else first. Thanks in advance!
