SD Card not reading

Messages

I have a Dell Studio 540 running Vista Home Premium x64 and it does not read SD cards.

I have an SD card slot built into the pc and when I put the card in nothing happens.

I have a SD card reader that plugs into the USB port and nothing happens.

SD card is fine, SD card reader is fine, works on other machines just not this one.

any advice? Thanks in advance

Chances are It might have got Corrupted or The Drivers may have been corrupted.

Try removing the Driver and reinstall it after a reboot.

To do that go to Device Manager, expand the SD host adapters,Click on the SDCard entry and uninstall the driver.
It would be good if you downloaded the driver to your desktop and when you go to reinstall click update your driver. When it asks do you want to go on line or browse your computer, pick browse and go to the downloaded file.

You can download the driver for your Dell Studio here....
Drivers & Downloads

I don't see why people always go for Dell - HP, Sony & Toshiba is highly recommend than Dell.
It's look good - but it's performance isn't good.

You could also open Device Manager and then plug in the SD card and see what gets added to device manager.
You could also try Device Manager, View, Show Hidden Devices.
See if it shows up then.

and that update in the blog about sd cards when I download it and try to install it says "this update does not apply to your system"

Tried both and nothing happens.
