Set Associations control panel

Help I have installed Micro Soft Office 2010 and changed the defult to Microsoft 2010. When I open a word documnet I receive the following message:

'The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail'.

I run a repair on it but its still not working.

Any ideas please.

Hi I am unsure did do the configuration. 2010 is in the programs but I cant run it when I set it as the default. I thought it would over ride that microsoft works thats installed?

Did you follow my first post and the side by side post.
After those two it should work. Follow the link that I gave, up to and including the log.

I have received a message

'the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgradede may be missing or the upgrade patch may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verfy the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the corect upgrade patch'

any Idea what this means??
