Standby Issues computer is taking forever to come out of sleep mode

I have been recently having issues with my Dell studio 540. When I put it into sleep mode it is taking as long as 20 min to come out of sleep mode. My monitor is an LG 227 and the power button goes from orange to flashing blue, but never comes on directly during those minutes til the screen comes on. If I put it into sleep mode and go to wake it with in a few min, I usually dont have problems with the monitor resuming, but if I am away for some time it will go back to taking forever to come back on. I am assuming this is a standby issue rather than a monitor issue. I did an event viewer and I have several critical, errors and warnings all related to standby issues with some of the following details

Can this problem be fixed by going to a restore point? or is there a driver problem. I am not a very computer savvy person, but I know just enough to get around a bit. Any help at all would be appreciated thanks

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately my restore points dont go back as far as my diagnostics show the problem first showed up. There were errors way back in Feb, of 2011, but my computer wasnt acting up at that time, always came on whenever the mouse or keyboard was touched. My event files are as long as my arm with boot performance monitoring and standby errors showing as errors, warnings, and criticals, with codes 300 351 400 100 103 102 101 107. Mind you I had no idea that I had these errors, until I started having issues with my monitor not coming on when the mouse was moved. That started about a week ago. I took my system restore back to the beginning of the month, but I am still having boot issues. I even tried shutting the computer down rather than putting it in sleep mode, hoping that might make a difference, but it didnt. Took me almost 20 min before the screen came on and launched windows. It doesnt even go first to the Dell screen but rather the LG logo, which it never did in the past, it then goes to Dell logo and then the launch.

At first I thought my monitor had a capacitor that was fried to the power supply and that was why it wasnt coming on till I did some investigating. I never even knew there were diagnoses/event monitoring...so I am all new to this but, I have found the errors and I am pretty sure this is my problem, just dont know how to go about fixing it.

I rely heavily on my computer for my business and my art work, and my photography so I am sitting on pins and needles hoping that the boot doesnt just stop. I have already made some back up files, but I am not sure if I should make some on my recovery drive or not, if the boot goes what good will that do? I have looked but I am not sure which driver is actually the faulty driver, dont know if I should update, or if I am going to have to redo Vista. So if you have any ideas I would appreciate the help. I can pull a full performance monitoring file if needed. But it only goes as far back as FEB of this year..or at least as far as I know how to get it...thanks

Hi have you tried to do the sfc /scannow to see if it will repair most of the damage if not you should heres how.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Easy

Lets not give up on it yet, here at the forum there is a wonderful tutorial section, have you checked it out yet. I can get others involved to see what we all come up with. Let me know.

Hi can you tell me can you get to your desktop at all...

I was hoping to catch you before you logged off, I would like for you to check all your drivers to see if they are up to date...

1. Click Start...
2. In the search box type: Device Manager...
3. Click device drivers...
4. In the tab menu click view...
5. Click show hidden devices...
6. Check to see if there are any yellow warning signs next to any driver if so we need to up-date them.
7. Double click on any device...
8. Then click driver...
9. Click driver under the tab menu...
10. Click update driver automatically.

If any of the drivers are out dated the by updating them we should be able to get your system working...

Back up everything you can just to be safe, they can always be reinstalled if you have to do a factory restore...

Ah! factory restore, that is a dirty word to me!!!! lol I am so afraid I will mess it up. I also have a ton of programs that I am guessing I will have to reinstall?? not sure and I will need a ton of external back ups...yikes..

Ok I did the device manager...did that. The only things that show as critical are the following: microsoft 6to4 adapter and microsoft 6to4 adapter #2 when I go to update it says that it already has the latest driver update, but the warning said that his device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. Checked solutions and nothing comes back.

The only other one with a critical warning is the following which I don't even know what it is never heard of it b4: under non plug and play drivers :
Pure networks device discovery driver it says the following: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

Tried to do a little investigating as to what this is and I am not sure. I did at one time have linksys but it never worked right with my computer or I just didn't know how to config. it right with my other computer. I would have issues with one or the other running and they would boot each other off of the internet. Would take me for ever to get them both going at the same time. Since then the other computer died so I uninstalled linksys. I am guessing perhaps that is what it is from? or wait, no my modem is a cisco, so perhaps it is for my modem...hmmm, that could be it. But I have no problems connecting or anything..doesnt have any details under driver details, no where to update, has a start stop under driver, shows stopped lit. If it is for the internet, then I am guess it is only running when it is going for a connect? seeing as it has a button that says run automatic.

Those are the only things showing. So I don't know what is the problem :-(. I am thinking of temp. leaving my computer on and disabling the sleep timer and just shutting off the screen so that I don't have trouble with the boot.

Oh! almost forgot. Most of the time when the computer is sent to sleep, the sound is down because I do late night projects and don't want to wake anyone. Today the sound was up and I decided to shut down manually the computer with the off button after trying to get it out of sleep mode. I waited and restarted. No screen but I did hear the Microsoft/Dell (not sure which it is) music that comes when you see the Microsoft logo. After about 3-4 min the LG logo flashed on, then the screen went black the on button flashed on and off again...another 30 sec went by it flashed again, and repeated, then the screen finally came on. Opens to the option screen for users. I think my husband logged off last. Not sure if he went to my account and then put it in sleep or not..usually if in sleep mode it will reopen in the account that it was sent to sleep...I am starting to go back to the idea that it is somehow my monitor...I have to take it to best buy and see if they can get it to work on their computers..I am lost :-(

Well I appreciate the help! cant tell you. I have to work today and depending on how brutal it is will be whether or not I am on tonight, lol. Last few days have knocked me out between the stress of this computer issue and long hours I am putting in working on wedding cakes...thanks again.

Welcome
The answer may have been given by your first Event Viewer description.
It points at the driver usbuhci, which is a microosft usb driver
Go to search
type
device manager.
Toward the bottom of the list of drivers, youn will see universal service controllers (or some such thing)
Look for yellow markers by any of these drivers. If any are found update them. If none are found update any drivers more than about a year old.

Also do not put the computer in power save mode and see how it works
If none of this works, go to search, type cmd
In cmd, type driverquery. Then look for new drivers about the time of the problem start. Then roll back to previous driver.

Hi Rich thanks for the reply. I had thought of the same thing as you did and I did check the usbchi driver, neither of the drivers were showing any warnings, but I did properties and went to the update and did the search for updates came back that they were updated...and so I am stumped why the error reports show them as not working properly..and obviously something is not right cause it takes so long to come on...grrrr...

I have tried logging off and shutting down the computer rather than putting it in the sleep mode, I though perhaps that if something was going in the standby mode/sleep that it would circumvent the issue but I had the same problem as I described above. Monitor's on light going from amber to blue(on) but flashing without a screen. Still took as long as 10-15 minutes to come on.

so for today I am going to disable the sleep timer and just keep the computer on and then shut the screen down while I go to work. I am scared that it wont reboot...:,-(

off to do the driver query do I need advance mode for this?

No, just type cmd from search and then driverquery. Drivers about the time of the problem start are all suspect; roll them back

There does not have to be a warning by the driver. If any show dates about the time of the problem, roll them back. Trust me on this, new is not always best.

I am not seeing anything that has been updated recently other than things that seem like they would have nothing to do with the problem...but hey what do I know lol.

how would I roll back the drivers?

ok I will give it a try lol...well I have my system set for update everyday at 3am all the boxes are checked, and I always install what ever update are given except for those that may be to programs I dont necessarily use or may be strictly optional. Not sure what you need me to do here...

I did go into the driver update under the usb contollers and updated the ones that were available to updates..which were the standard enhanced pci and standard universal pci to host controllers, those were the only ones that would update, but I went back to the first one to check it to see if it was updated, and it did it all over again as if it never did...??? well I have to go to work..

I updated drivers that would let me, which were in my above post. Nothing else would update, they all said that they have the latest drivers. So in all only 5 updated. I am not sure if I am understanding what you meant. The ref Windows 7 Forums is for windows 7 I have vista. And like I said my updates are checked everyday with the updates. Did a check and it said everything was updated....
