with the rise of modern operating systems and technologys windows vista has stood the test of time to become to most used legacy windows version in the world (behind 10.0) but with the recent development in the world and windows 11 being the main windows version at this point will windows vista be usable beyond 2023?

At no time did Windows Vista ever have as many users as Windows XP. When Windows 7 was released in 2009, Vista quickly dropped to third place, although 7 did not replace XP as #1 until 2011. Windows 8 was another dud like Vista, and Windows 7 remained #1 until long after Windows 10 was released. I think Windows 7 still has about 9 percent market share and Windows 8.1 nearly 3 percent, whereas Vista has been below 1 percent for years. Vista probably has more users than Windows 2000 and earlier, but I’m not certain.

The state of Windows Vista in 2023 is “dead” with the exception of a few extended kernel enthusiasts, and I would be surprised if there are 100 of those in the entire world. This forum’s wither 3 might actually be the last person in the United States running vanilla Vista on bare metal (it’s been years since I’ve heard of anyone else).

Now if Vista becomes the only OS older than Windows 10 that Chromium 110 can be used on, that might generate some interest - perhaps even from Microsoft’s legal department!

Microsoft's legal department would put a dmca on the extended kernal to stop that from happening
