System Restore Question

I'd like to know if there's a way to view the contents of a backed up registry in a system restore point. Does Windows save the restore point as a file? or is it hidden and encrypted?

I want to be able to 'open up' a previous restore point (without restoring to it) and viewing what my registry looked like at that point in time. Is there a way to do this?

Hello Frank,

Sorry, but there is no way to do this in Vista with System Restore.

However, Windows 7 will include a way to see what items and programs will be affected by the System Restore. See step 8 (METHOD ONE) below for more about this feature.
