take out hard dive

i know this is off topic thead. biut i would love to know this.

OK where i live is in the bush, if a fire started there, and i dont want to lose all of my data from my computer and i dont have a back up hard drive. would it be possible to take my HDD out of my computer. would it still hold all my data if i put it in a new computer if my old one is destroyed?
