Hello....

I have Audio files on a SCAN disk card ...MP4 Music Files.

I have windows VISTA...BASIC edition.

I would think this should be simple, yet I am un able to do this...

I would need step by step instructions on how to do this...What program is EASIEST to use, would my basic operating system do this and also what type of DVD to use so it would play anywhere? I am gratefull to any help.

Hold on let's get this straight: you have some MP4 music files (I'm pretty sure MP4 is only for video files; MP3 is for audio, so that needs clarification) and you want to burn them to a DVD. Before we go any further I need to know for sure what file extension they are (MP4 or something else) and if they're audio or video.

They ARE on a san disk card that goes in a DVD recorder. They do have music but also pictures. They are MP4

Is this what your "san disc card" looks like? Maybe you have a newer DVD recorder I'm not familiar with that has a slot for one of these, but as far as I know there aren't any that have a spot for a sandisk card to go into. So I don't really know what you mean by that.

Do you mean there's a video in MP4 format that has music and pictures, like a slideshow? Or do you have individual files on the disk? Because neither pictures nor audio can be stored in MP4 files. Only video.

Ok so you have pictures and music on it. Do you mean you want to be able to put the music and pictures into a "slideshow" type thing to put on a DVD to watch on your TV? Or are you just trying to put it all on a DVD to use for storage? Like you want to make a DVD and view all the files on your computer using a DVD instead of the SD card?

Its a concert, my intention is to BURN the 4 mp4 movie/audio to a DVD that I can play on my dvd player

Ok I think the simplest way to do that would be to use the built it Windows Movie Maker program. Search for it in the start menu. You should just be able to drag the MP4 files into that, then drag them into the timeline/storyboard at the bottom of the screen. Then just go to File -> Publish Movie and follow the instructions from there. if you have trouble, let me know.

My method will. I can't speak for ilikefree's program.

Oh wait, no. WMM won't accept mp4 files. You have to convert them to .wmv format first. Use ilikefree's program and see if it works.

Sorry to interrupt Adams (Slammer) and Rogers (ilikefree) excellent advice, but I've got a suggestion

If you do this, you won't have to convert the videos:

.mp4 isn't a file extension that Windows is designed to recognise, so we'll have to install what's known as a codec (basically tells Windows how to read the file). There's a large codec pack, called the K-Lite Codec Pack, which is excellent.

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

1. Go to: Free-Codecs.com :: Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 7.2.0 : The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack includes the K-Lite Codec Pack Full, QuickTime Alternative, Real Alternative support and Monkey's Audio DirectShow decoder.
2. Scroll down to find the link that will "Download [ K-Lite Mega Codec Pack X.X.X ]" where the X.X.X will be the version number
*If the link doesn't work then choose one of the links with "MIRROR" written next to it*
3. Click on it and save the file to your documents
4. When it finishes downloading, find the file and run it

Now we have to install the program:

1. Click Next
2. Check "Advanced Install" and click Next
3. Click Next
4. On the drop down menu, select "Profile 8: Lots of stuff (without player)" and click Next
5. Click Next
6. Click Next
7. Check the "Windows Media Player" box and click Next
8. Check both of the boxes:
-"Video file extensions:"
-"Audio file extensions:"
and click Next
9. Click "Select All" and click Next
10. Click Next
11. Click Install​

Once you've installed that, Windows will be able to open 99% of all video extensions in Windows Media Player (e.g. .mkv .avi .mp4 .m4v .mt2s etc.). This will also allow us to open these new video extensions in other Windows tools such as Windows DVD Maker. By using this program, you can burn your video files to a disc and watch it on your TV. Quick question Tom: are you sure that codec pack will let WMM import .MP4s? I've had that installed for forever, and it's still never let me import mp4 files into WMM... but maybe it was just something funky with my system of that works for you.

In theory it should, I don't use WMM so I don't know for sure - so you could well be right.

I do know that it works with Windows DVD Maker though

Good to know! I'm almost certain it doesn't with WMM though. At least on Vista.
