The New HD5970. What do you think?

have just noticed that stores are now selling the new 5970 gpu. they only have 725mhz core clock and 4000mhz memory (compared to the 5870 : 850mhz core, 4800mhz memory), but with 2 gb memory with 512-bit memory interface, what do you think of the card?

its amazing.... :D the benches show that it outperforms everything! including 2 285's on sli and 2 5870's on cf.. its a beast :D

yes, it is usually bottlenecked by the cpu's in the benches. i think that it doesn't beat the 5870 cf cuz it has the core and memory specs of a 5850.

The 5000 series has some very nice cards, just a shame they're taking advantage of there being no competition and charging an arm and a leg.

2 5870's do have the advantage over the 5970, but there are definite benefits to using the 5970 over 2 5870's:

• Less power usage
• Smaller PSU wattage requirements (still need a lot of amps though)
• LESS NOISE
• Motherboard selection is far less limited (no more restrictions with x16/x8 PCIE-E lanes for dual cards)
• Can be overclocked to 5870 levels

At first I was a little disappointed that it was essentially a 5850x2, but after further consideration - it doesn't really matter. It's going to handle pretty much anything

CPU bottlenecking is another matter - and if overclocked high end intel chips are the bottleneck, I shudder to think how an AMD chip will handle it

it is in fact 2x ''cypress XT'' 5870 cores, which have been downclocked to 5850 speeds (725/4000) to keep inside the 300w bracket.

the original ''XT'' clocks are 865/5200, so this is infact the stock clock of the 5970

the 5970 will DESTROY crossfire 5870s, it just wont do it ''out of the box'' :D

lol, You know what I mean - 5850 x2 clockspeeds = 5850 x2 performance

It will be interesting to see what sort of temps overclocking these with stock coolers will bring.
