User Accounts The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

Hello all.

I've been doing a bit more rooting around in the system and find that the account which has been locked out is the only one missing a file entitled NTUSER.DAT. All the other functioning accounts have this file/folder name present.

Does missing this NTUSER.DAT make it impossible for the user profile to be loaded, and, if so, how can someone remake such a file so that the system uses it like it did the original for access to the data in the original profile? Any expert thoughts, anyone?

Oh, I've been back to my local guy who built the machine, and he's pretty sure we are looking at a total rebuild with the loss of both Vista and XP because these are no longer supported. :sarc: Do you think his opinion is true or just something he is saying because he really is not interested? Because of his lack of support and dire warnings of consequences about loosing our software capability, I am loathe to do anything that will be too drastic to recover from as we can still access our data via a "backdoor."

Thanks

Just a thank you for this information and to let people know it also worked on Windows 7. I'm not a techie and usually use a Mac, so this being locked out was quite a quagmire. I followed the step-by-step clear illustrated instructions and got my PC back. Thank you very much! :geek: -- robink
