Solved 'Today' pop-up not wanted

Hi. does anyone know how to disable what I find is an annoying feature of Vista. Every time I start up my computer Microsoft's Today window keeps appearing. Now the last thing that I want to see first thing during a computer session is some celebrity's face or butt being displayed and masquerating as news. Can somebody help me with this situation? Do you have messenger installed if so it could be the cause of the problem as that does have a today that pops up
does it look like this:

if so then go to messenger option under general there is a option to disable this

this is the only today I have heard of so not sure if this is not it.
