Your problem is NOT Vista, it is your BIOS motherboard software. You need to repair it, though following the guide posted above would be the best solution.

On seeing your first post, it seems that the problem is with your hardware and not with the OS or softwares. I think it could be due to ur DVD rom (the ID wire could be lose) and (or) your RAM. It might have fallen lose from the socket or something.
You could open up the laptop and check if these are fine and reply a poost soon.

i followed wat u said and i took out my dvd rom and, voila my comp started in just 58 secs,that too not once but twice.
but i may not be able to keep out my dvd rom for too long(cause of dust and all thing).
so is there any way that i insert it in its slot but keep it disabled.
im attaching the screenshot.
so now when the mystery is out plz some one help me.



all im asking now is how to disable dvd rom on startup.
thats it.
i dont use my dvd rom,ever since this problem came into existence(long time around 4 months),and for its replacement i have 1 320 gb external hdd and 1 80 gb external hdd.
so disabling my dvd rom wont affect me any more.
but the question is "is there any way to disable dvd rom on startup?"

this time i put the dvd rom in its place and the same problem occured again.
so its very much clear that the problem is with the dvd rom and not with the os.
disabling dvd rom from device manager will work or not??????
means will dvd rom work on start up if ill disable it from device manager.

OMG i think im at the recieving end from all sides.
i cant disable dvd rom from my device manager because it isnt there(whenever that prob occurs)
so im in a complete mess.
is there anyonwe who can help me in disabling dvd rom from startup

Yeah, there is a way to disable it. You can disable DVD rom boot from the bios (surf the bios for the option ) (OR) In the boot sequence page, arrange your HDD boot above your DVD rom boot and place the DVD rom at the last of the sequence. And when you have done that, put the DVD rom back into it's place and boot. Then go into the device manager and check if it's there. Then Disable it :D

hi every one
i use a hp pavilion laptop with 2 gb ram and centrino1.73ghz c2d vista ultimate 64bit.
most of the times when i press power button(when my laptop is switch off or say shut down)the very "first screen" which shows hp logo,intel logo and phoenix logo along with press del and press f..... options remains for too long and i mean too long i.e. nearly 160 seconds.
but this problem occurs 8 outta 10 times.
and whenever this problem occurs , cd rom icon from "my computer" window disappears and thus i cant use my cd/dvd rom.
bt when on switching on the "first screen" shows for a fraction of a second then everything works fine and cd/dvd rom appears in "my computer" window.
i thought that there might be some problem in my hdd so i did a factory reset(i.e. recovery) bt to my disappointment nothing went right.
the problem exists as it happened to be.
it is very irritating to sit in front of a black screen and do nothing for almost 4 minutes.
is there a solution to my problem?
so can i get help from someone?
plz help me im really p***** with this problem.

I think this is happening because you are using a 64bit operating system with not enough RAM. 32bit is for at the most 3.5GB of RAM and 64bit is for 4GB of RAM or more. I might not be right but its just a thought

Well issaclopez, 64-bit is even compatible with 2 GB RAM and it doesn't cause any major problems. My friend has had vista home premium 64-bit on his 2.68 GB RAM for the past 1-year, and he never had any problems with it.

Can HP Pavillion 6314 take more than 2 GB of RAM that i'm presently using.
I'm currently using a 667 MHz DDR2 RAM...Is there a possibility to increase it to DDR3 RAM or DDR2 800/1048 RAM.
