More info on how my "damaged NVDIA graphic card" collapsed PC was restored to original perfection:

I found out that the "damaged" card was restored to "normal" by re-installing from Recovery Manager source and is on original OEM very old driver/software by default.

David had updated driver to most recent 2013, from NVIDIA site ...only to enable high-speed games; then he would rollback to original 2008 driver for normal surfing and computing. I still do not know how and where he gets those awesome games. They are not in my harddrive or anywhere in my system. I think he downloads them from game sources and then un-installs when done playing.

Oh yes, I am back to original HP functions like when I first got the laptop 5 yrs ago....maybe even faster...albeit sans QuickPlay.

I also noticed I have gained 12 extra GB's of free space. David had removed Recovery Partition also through Recovery Manager. His reason, "Cuzz it's not nice"...whatever it means.(thanks goodness I have Recovery Discs).

Yha the 12Gigs is important if you don't have disks as backup, if you do have themits just more space.

I'm still nearly 100% the bios update fixed you. So tell him to just leave the upto date video drivers.

I'm pretty sure i never said it was broke, well I hope I never, My system is as old as yours so i know its still a decent setup.
Though I did do a cpu update and added an ssd.

Getting an SSD and swaping windows to it is a great speed up upgrade.

I crush on 2013 NVDIA driver with subsequent re-boot difficulty. Since I do not play 3D hi-speed games, I am content with the OEM 2008 NVIDIA driver. There are more recent drivers listed in Device Manager(5 total, including one for Standard VGA card) but I recall I crushed on them too(except the VGA...which is stable but very limited video capacity). So...it seems the most reliable and stable driver is the first NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT version.

I asked David about installation of JAvA and his answer was, "it's mine. You don't need it"...whatever it means.
