Can you go back with a system restore to a point before you began updateing?

have also tried system restore but unfortunately dont have a restore point old enough as i have made many stupid descisions with my lack of computer knowledge..... woops!

Have you tried this yet: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

When your computer has a power failure during an update install, the likeliest issue are corrupt .cat and .mum files. If this is the case, then this is the only fix which is going to get us somewhere.

Please run the above, and navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy CheckSUR.log to your Desktop, and then upload it here.

unfortunately im having the same problem with downloading the attachment, downloads ok and then when initializing the updates a DNS Client has stopped working pop up appears??!

I think you are required to do this bit first.

This will allow the LOG file to be reviewed & see what errors are being generated.

Sorry about that, open windows exploere, (My computer) & then follow the path with each mouse click (One or double click) to open the foder.

C: drive
Windows
Logs
CBS

Now you should find the file CheckSUR.log to your Desktop, and then upload it here.

(Use the paper clip icon on the edit a mesage window to)

when i open checkSUR a note pad dialog box opens, do i then drag the paperclip into the box or do i delete the info in the box n then drag it? sorry but im not to intelligent on a computer.

Hi,

No copy the file to the desktop.

Start to edit a new message in the forum. Once the text is completed, click on the paper clip & a file menu will open in the view window for you to select the file on your desktop. See picture.

now click on one of the "Browse" buttons & find & select the file on you desktop. once the file name appears in that window, click upload, again when the file name appears in the window (Different location, middle to bottom of the screen), then close the window.

Now all you have to do is post your message.
