Solved Un-map a device

I have four mapped devices that I can not identify. They show up in Windows Explorer and

They are: Device Manager has:
Compact Flash Drive (F TEAC USB HS-CF Card USB Device
xD/SM Drive (G TEAC USB HS-xD/SM USB Device
Memory Stick Drive (H TEAC USB HS-MS Card USB Device
SD Card Drive (I TEAC USB HS-SD Card USB Device

If I look at Properties they all say type - Removable disk

They all display under Properties > Hardware:
WDC WD5000AAKS-75A7B0 ATA Device Disk Drives

This is the same as my OS (C drive

It looks like incorrect mapping to me.
I would like to "Un-map" them if that would not cause a problem.

What makes you think that they are incorrectly mapped and in what way? Why do you want to remove the drive letters?

What makes you think that they are incorrectly mapped and in what way? Why do you want to remove the drive letters?

Exactly, why would you want to unmap them? I'm assuming this is in Device Manager. That reflects anything that has ever been connected to the computer that involved having a driver installed.

Do you have an SD Card Reader built in? That would also show as a USB device.

If you delete the USB drive entries you will only have to reiinstall those whenever they may be needed and often it's difficult to find the drivers unless you have the original source installation disk.

Your C drive is exactly what it say and don't even think of removing that from Device Manager unless you want to have real problems.

Your questioning of my planned action was quite appropriate. I took another look at a SanDisk ImageMate Reader/Writer that I use for loading Pictures from Smart Media cards. It connects via USB. This device has four slots that are labeled :

Compact Flash Type I/II
Smart Media /xD
Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO
SD/MultiMedia Card

They correspond exactly to the F, G, H and I mapped devices that I wanted to remove.

You save me from making a big mistake.
