Unable to download

I am experiencing a sudden problem where I can not seem to download anything using my dell laptop and vista. Whether I use the "run" or "save" option for downloading, it seems to work in that you can see the % progress of the download, but then at the end all windows just close, nothing happens, and there is no file on the computer. I have absolutely no idea what happened. Can anyone make any suggestions.

Re-boot.
Try a new DLoad and write down the filename..
Then see if Windows search can locate it.
It's possible your DLoad save location has inadvertently been changed.
