Unexpected BSOD's

I am a moderately-high experienced computer user who recently finished designing and building his own tower PC. I had originally intended to install Windows XP on this machine, but received a free upgrade to Windows 7 with the purchase of Vista and so went that route instead.

So I'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0 GHz w/ 8 Gb RAM on Vista Home Premium x64.

My problem is that the computer will Blue Screen without any particular warning signs. The symptoms of the problem are that the computer will run smoothly for several hours to a day or more, before crashing very suddenly. I have been unable to force-ably recreate the problem, and all of the drivers have been updated, rolled-back, and re-updated already.

All of the BSOD's point to gdrv.sys - which is a part of the Windows Operating system. In general, if there cause points to a Windows component, we troubleshoot the drivers that access that component (presuming that the Windows files are OK).

In this case, each of the errors occurred in the GUI.EXE process. This process is usually associate with a spyware program that goes by many different names.

But, the debugger states that it couldn't find the symbols for gdrv.sys. Since the symbols are standardized on the Microsoft server - I'd have to wonder if there is corruption of the gdrv.sys driver.

I'd first suggest running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an elevated (run as adminsitrator) Command Prompt. If that does not fix it (or if it generates errors), then I'd suggest a trip over to the Security forums to see if there's an infection that's causing this. Alas, I tried both of your suggestions and am still experiencing at least one Blue Screen of Death per day. I also tried one other thing which was trying to set the voltage to the memory to be constant instead of auto-variable. I tried to do this using Easy Tune 6, which came with the motherboard, but Im still having the same problem.

The GVTDrv64.sys driver is still outdated ((/5/2006). Please visit the Gigabyte website to see if there's an update available there.

I don't know what it is, so you may have to search your system for similarly named files in order to get a clue about what it is.

If you can't find an update, then I'd suggest uninstalling that component in order to remove it from the list of suspected causes.
