Hello guys! newbie here :)
I'm tryng to solve some issue on my Vista x64 based pc.
I've installed (as always in all my pc) the Unlocker prog ( HERE )
No problem during the install, Then I setup the program to work with Admin previlege (Run as administrator) but........... I don't have any unlocker shortcut in my explorer extension (to be more clear....I have no Unlocker choice with right click on the file I want to unlock).
I have the Unlocher assistent in the app Bar, but it is useless.
I see that all you here speak about Unlocker so I can thinks thato many of you have it working.
Can you please help me? (despite my horrible english :o:p)
Thanks in advance

Hi Lio,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you already do the instructions from the program's site?

How to make Unlocker work on Windows Vista? You need to deactivate UAC globally for the whole system or locally just for Unlocker. Globally, go to "Control Panel" then "User Accounts" then again "User Accounts" then "Turn User Account Control" and set it to Off, then restart your computer. Locally go to the Unlocker install directory (usually C:/Program Files/Unlocker), right-click Unlocker.exe, select Properties, and on the "Compatibility" tab, under "Priviledge Level" enable "Run this program as administrator". Click "allow" everytime you will get the UAC prompt to ask if you want to run Unlocker.

Hi Brink, thanks for your reply...
Yes I did it.
After the install I did the "run as Administrator" but I don't have it in the right click.
I also tried to run in compatibility mode (XP service pack 2)..... nothing!!!
Maybe I'm a stupid woman, but there is something wrong....

Lio,

While your in the Compatibility Mode window, see if you check the Run this program as an administrator box at the bottom. Then see if it will run ok.

I post some screen, so you can see how I've my setting done. Sometimes my english is too bad to be clear :o

and this is the only (useless...) extension that I've in explorer (right click).

In this way my unlocker don't run.
This morning when I turn on my Vista pc, for the first time I have a UAC windows asking a permit for Unlocker assistent .....
This things make me mad .......
Unlocker is installed, it's in my explorer shell, but it's not setup to do its work..........
I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times without no change......
There is something that I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for your support, Vista 64 make me crazy in many things, not only this one (like WD Button Manager permit, or The font Thing impossible setup etc).
I wait for all suggestion
Have a great day!

Lio,

Uncheck the box for the XP SP2 compatibility and leave the Run as Admin. checked to see how that does. If this still does not get it to work, then you might send a email to the Unlocker support contact at their site to see what they say about it to.

I wrote to the author of this program and He has already answered: no word.... it's a very kind guy!

here his answer, so I hope it is usefull for all.

I am very sorry but Unlocker can not work yet on x64.
There is a bug that I need to fix. I have no ETA yet
since I am crunching in office like crazy.
Cedrick
So maybe that people with Unlocker running on Vista pc, have Vista 32....:sarc:
But I'm very sad, I'm used to have Unlocker.....:(

Thanks for tour effort

There is a comparison chat listing other "similar" programs. I'd suggest looking for one with the features you require (obviously they aren't as good as Unlocker) and check to see if it has 64bit support!

Hi BleepingCrazy,

Did you want to delete or kill the process for the .dll file?

If kill, then what is the full path of the .dll file? I'll see if I can post back a command that you can try to delete it with. :)

hi Brink, it varies, one in particular for example, is when updating ultraISO, it leaves "C:\Program Files (x86)\UltraISO\isoshl64.dll" and doesn't allow it to be deleted until a restart. killing it saves me restarting for nothing. (then I exit/restart explorer.exe)...voilà!

can you make a batch command that does both? (at least the 1st)....so then I could use that on other similar, frequently changed programs, etc.

EDIT: I've heard that Windows 7 has a "unlocker" of sorts as a default....anyone use that? pros/cons?
