Solved upgrading processors

hi i want to upgrade my processor from 1.8 to 2.2 GHz. i know that i have a socket p (478) but i was wondering if my laptop can take it. component wise. i have a sony vaio vgn_cr14gn.

will the cpu affect other parts in a bad way??? is there a max speed or something

ive looked but no resaults

2.2GHz T7500 will make your laptop cooler than the current overclocked T7100. Performance wise it'll be more or less the same and you'll gain 2MB of cache. If I were you I'll go for a faster HDD.HTH.

In theory it should work without any problem but I am unable to guarantee as I haven't tested or owned a Sony laptop. Good luck.
EDIT:
You have already overclocked your cpu(2.2GHz) and running with no issues, BUS speed is 800MHz for both ,both are socket P processors,TDP for both are 34W. These are the reasons convince me that you can safely upgrade to your intended CPU.

just make sure that the thermal power design and socket of your cpu matches with your motherboards's

and dont forget to get the thermal paste. i suggest the arctic silver, as it lasts long and is one of the best thermal pastes out there.

pop open case, take out cpu. put in new cpu. put case back. install drivers if necessary.

anything with a heatsink on top of it requires thermal paste for the heatsink to work properly. if your cpu doesnt have a heatsink (i highly doubt that because if that happened your motherboard along with other components would fail and even melt). hmm, i had a bit of a hard time finding the model of that processor, but from what ive been reaading on google it should be fine, but i dont think you will get much of a performance gain.

ok thanks. i will buy some thermal paste but first: your right it does have have heat sink on it. but that has quite a bit paste on it already though. would it be neccesary???

if i were you, i would use new paste. but if money is an issue, id monitor the temps, and if the temperatures gets too high, then new thermal paste is needed.

Are you really going to go for that celeron from T7100 C2D? I have never anticipated this, however your laptop will be a bit warmer and there'll be little or no performance increase. Then again I could be wrong.
My assumptions were all wrong, could you please give me the reasons for this downgrade.

well dunno i dont really care about core 2 duo as i dont do much tasks apart from games. i might change seeing as you say it will make it warmer. i just thought it would be better.
