Hi

The links provided the answer, which is yes, but! It involves backing up files programs etc seems a big hassle maybe I'll just keep with 64bit, makes life simpler. Only have a couple of programs that refuse to work under the 64bit system.

Hi,
I would!
If you have a healthy 64bit system you are used to for your study work etc, then 'I would keep it for now.
Maybe upgrade later.
Other members may have other suggestions.
I'd hang on to that one for now!
Good Luck.
Happy Computing.

I missed it the first time! What couple of programs do you have not working?
Are they important ones?

I currently have Vista Home Premium 64bit, i would like to upgrade to 7 Professional but the 32 bit version. Is this possible if I buy Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32-bit Upgrade Edition ?
Thanks

For your future reference only :

A. Upgrading from 64-bit Vista to 32-bit Win7, or vice versa :

1. NO.... you cannot directly upgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit, or vice versa.
Has to be 32-bit to 32-bit, etc.

2. YES..... if you purchase a licensed 32-bit Win 7, then you can perform a " clean install ". Clean Install will wipe out everything and start from scratch.

B. In-place install
To be used if upgrading from Vista to Win 7 of the SAME version.
i.e. Vista Home Premium to Win7 Home Premium.

C. Clean Install
To be used if upgrading from Vista to Win 7 of DIFFERENT versions.
Also applies to upgrading from one " bit " level to a different " bit " level.
i.e. from Vista Home Premium to Win7 Pro.
i.e. from 32-bit to 64-bit, or vice versa.

Hi,
You are obviously happy, as the links provided the answer, as you state.

On a side note, reading the student link you included, I found I would be able to use the scheme for my granddaughter who attends Primary School.
So thank you.

I will mark this thread as solved.
