ive lost all access to my only admin account! a year ago i tried to hide my account(to have a text field logon like in xp) by changing the registry value to '0'. it didnt do anything. everything just went on as normal, account not hidden and no text logon. well a few days ago i made an account for my grandpa, not an admin just a standard user. well when i went to logon to it to set up everything my main(and only) account was no longer visible. i think if i put the registry value back to 1 ill be able to log in. the problem is i cant edit the registry on this standard user account. ive tried booting into safe mode but it still puts me on his account and im unable to get on my account. plz help as i have important documents on my account!

I don't think so, run a scan if you want but the only way of fixing this is using back track Linux which is just a registry editor Live CD.

I am not totally sure on how to go about doing this but I'm sure some one will, it may be easy if you know what to expect, I haven't used it recently.

All I know is that this should be used for personal use only, at your own risk and with a solid backup in place.

DO NOT PLAY AROUND WITH THIS LIVE CD.

If you would like detailed instructions please ask on the Back Track Forum.

Hello,

I think your best bet would be as follows: Just to ask, what registry key did you change?

Download a Windows Vista Recovery CD if necessary from here: Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

It is a torrent file, so if you need any help with this, do not be afraid to ask.

Burn it onto a CD or use your normal Vista Installation disk, and boot from it.

Boot into the Command Prompt. See here on how to do this: How to use the Command Prompt in the Vista Windows Recovery Environment

Type regedit and press enter.

Now change your registry key back!

If this does not work, I will try to get permission, and teach you how to hack back your administrator account using regedit.
