Urgent Help: Page Fault in Non Paged Area

I have Vista Business basic 32bit. For over 24 hrs my computer is not starting windows at all. I tried a few things through forums and the Lenovo tech support (i have a lenovo T400) but none worked. A few pointers -

- I did not install ay softwares or hardwares yesterday. So this really cannot be any new driver
- I have tested and reseated both my RAM and hard drive. I have also checked for all hardware problems using a bootable PC Doctor but found no hardware error.
- My computer refuses to start windows even in the Safe Mode
- The lenovo rescue and recovery system is also not starting! This is what concerns me the most.


So try what I may my computer does not start and my windows does not boot. I cannot afford to lose the data in my hard drive as it is my official system and I have not taken backups in the last two weeks - precious work I cannot lose. I am also trying hard to get this up by tomorrow.

I currently do not have the vista install disks with me. They are at work tomorrow and I shall them to repair Vista as last resort. But I cannot lose the data in the harrd drive. So would like to at least back it up before I install vista.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

See if you can borrow a vista disk any type will do as long as it's 32bit. use it to repair the boot sector. that way you won't lose any data.

Thanks a lot. I there a non-bit torrent link of this from where I can download this? And I do not know of this feature - what exactly does it do and what part of the bootable disk do I have to run?

Can't find the other link in the moment, but you can just google it. Just boot from the disk and tell it to repair your boot sector.
PS. you may have to go in to the bios and tell it to boot from CD rom.

Downloaded that and burned the iso to a disk. then I asked my Bios to boot from CD ROM.
After loading Windows for some time, this time I got a BSD with the error message "An attempt was made to write to Read Only Memory". At no point were there any options for me to choose from. (CORRECTION - I was asked to "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...". Hardly a choice, but a user input anyway.)

Lost again!?

I made one recently for a friend , it is all easy to do , including setting up bittorrent - I did it just for that download.The disc you make will be very useful for the future.

Alternatively, if you know someone with a Vista dvd 32 bit, you can borrow that for the startup repair. You could even make your own dvd from the borrowed one, using isorecorder ( see the tutorial ). Remember when burning bootable iso to cd or dvd, do not format the recordable disc - if Autoplay pops up, just close it.

Hi Ivars, have you tried memtest to see if you have some dodgy ram?

yup Smarteyball is right looks like a ram problem. test as suggested if test fails, remove ram and use a Rubber (the ones you use to erase a pencil) cut it in to a V then carefully wipe the connections. reinstall the ram. And all should be well.

I am sure that it is not a hardware error now. Firstly, I did run PC Doctor which Lenovo asked me to and found nothing wrong with the hardware. As to the memory, I reseated my two RAM cards, tried running with each of them once and the problem still persisted.

Also, I used a 2.5 inch HDD enclosure to extract data from my HDD using a friends computer. But as soon as I plugged in the USB to his computer, that crashed too and restarted with a message saying that "Windows has recovered from a Serious Error". I disabled auto play in his laptop and scanned the drive using Symantec Antivirus and found the drive clean. So I doubt if it is a virus or a malware as something with such serious effects would definitely be detected by Symantec.

So, still no idea what is wrong. If I use the Windows vista cd to repair the problem, will I lose the data in my hard drive?

Since you were able to got your data of the drive it also may be worth getting the error report of it.

Can you start in safe mode or VGA only mode? Remove all your RAM in order and put them on a piece of paper. Put the second stick only in the first slot and see if it boots.

If you are overclocking, reset to default. This can cause the errors.

I solved my problem, though I still do not know what the problem was.

I took my laptop to my office where there were other laptops ordered in the same lot and with same configuration. I simply put my hard drive into another system and after some repair, my windows started. I also put the new systems hard drive into my earlier laptop and even that started!

I would love to say I do not feel dumb, but I very much do. If the previous laptops hardware was compatible with the new laptops drive, then why did it crash non stop for over 24 hrs on this hard drive. The two systems are similar in every configuration.

I might mention that I did try one memory stick at a time in the earlier laptop and in both cases my system did not start.

Where do I find my error log? I would like to solve this so that if there is anything wrong with the hardware I can call up the Lenovo support and get it rectified (the system that gave me trouble is in the office now and will eventually be used for someone. It should be working by then...)

There's no need to feel dumb, just feel perplexed

You can look at the error logs in Event Viewer. There's also another way to view them but for the life of me I can't remember where it is! (Now who feels dumb )

It's good that you at least got it working again
