Solved USB to Playstation 2 Adapter...

helloo all! hope i have posted this in the right place, lol :D
Today i recieved a USB to Playstation 2 Adapter that i ordered from eBay, so i ran upstairs, plugged it in and checked game controllers to make sure it was there, and it was.
So i plugged in my Logitech Cordless Action controller and the lights flashed and the receiver flashed so i assumed it was connected.
Opened up X-plane and tested it out and nothing, did a bit of googleing and found a driver/program for the adapter, installed it and still nothing.

Im wondering if it is because the controller i am using is wireless, but if it worked on my Playstation then it should work with this adapter, right?

I hope this can be sorted as the Vista Forum has sorted lots of my problems out before.

thanks, Daniel :D

It's because it's wireless. The USB to Playstation 2 adaptor just changes the plugs. In other words, it's just a "though-box" and it doesn't have the proprietary SONY software that the system needs to recognize inputs.

Now, I checked this out and the ePSXe software I use personally use works with wireless game controllers but only wireless controllers that are Microsoft compatible. They use Vista system drivers and Vista sends the inputs to ePSXe.

ePSXe, though, still might 'see' the raw controller input and it just doesn't understand it. You need to find an... ePSXe or whatever program you use... you need to find a plugin that enables factory Playstation 2 controller use and see if that works.

My XBOX 360 controller works with ePSXe though it doesn't recognize the two paddle keys labelled Brake and Accelerate in the following picture:

Thanks for the reply,
I think i get it, so i need a wired controller, not wireless unless i can find a driver for it. I have the adapter plugged in at the moment and the light on the receiver is flashing, and the controller is giving vibration feedback when i push the vibration button.
It only does that when it is connected with the receiver, so there must be a connection there, i just have to find it and activate it.

Again, thanks for the reply, ill keep posting with what i do, you never know, it might help someone with the same problem out ;)

Daniel :D

EDIT: just tried a wired controller without the 2 sticks, and it worked  but the wireless one isnt working :sarc:

HI!
Aha!! i just plugged the adapter into my mums lappy, opened game controllers, found it and calibrated it, and it worked!

The problem was that when i first installed it the controllers batterys were flat, *doh!*

I know how to sort the problem now, i just need to somehow delete the driver and all traces of the adapter from my system...

ill post back when i sort it,

Daniel :D

Ha ha! Oh, snap! That's, like... RULE ONE Of Everything Electronic, lol. "Check the batteries." I can't believe I missed it!

*note to self*

Yeah, if you open the Device Manager and find the device, a driver uninstall followed by a scan for changes should set you right up!

Hi, just tried the suggested and it doesn't want to work, to make sure i am doing it right, i am going into device manager, finding both devices, and right-clicking and uninstaling them, then scanning for changes.

Just plugged it in on my dads vista and it worked.

Just something to add quickly, my computer sees the adapter as a 'Twin USB Network Gamepad' and my dads computer sees it as a 'Twin USB Gamepad' :sarc:

Found the network controller thing!! <attached image>
Its not a program, and its not a process, so what is that? this is defiantly what is stopping this from working.

It's a program. It lists all the game controllers it recognizes attached to the system and you can do the Z X and Y alignments and see if it recognizes all the buttons and stuff.

Hi!

Is it possible to un install the driver so that vista will see the adapter as a new device when i plug it in? can you understand what i mean?
I reckon that its the driver that is the problem...

Thanks,

Hi!
Sorry i haven't replied!
Today i decided to plug it in once more, so i plugged it in, went to game controllers, and it worked! I calibrated it and opened up "X-plane" and set it up, and it works!
Maybe it was just pure luck as my computer is a bit of a 'work then don't work', but it only works on one usb port though, but thats not a problem!

Thanks for you help, pauliewalnuts.

Heyy, i supose this is a bit of a bump, but here goes..
I have finally got this working properly!
So, how did i sort it? by plugging it into a 4 port usb hub and pressing the mode button over and over, it turns out that the mode button is for syncing the controller with the receiver and it also turns the analogue sticks on or off...

Something else too; where i had it plugged into the back or my case, i just left it dangling, so i lost the range because my computer sits on my desk...

so yeah, its all sorted, thanks for your help when it wasnt working, pauliewalnuts.

And thanks for the rep, DwarfVader!

Daniel :D and hey, if anyone plays TrackMania Nations Forever, add me on there, im smurfyy (y)
