user account issues

i'm having trouble deleting accounts in the program files/users file. this was a second hand computer with vista on it. i also can't make it stop asking me for permission to make changes. i've turned off UAC to no avail. i downloaded the "take ownership" thing for right clicking...took ownership and still can't delete it. i also unlocked the hidden administrator account like you said. these accounts that i want to delete don't show up when i turn on the computer. one of them is for the guy who had the computer first.

Hello Chuck, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I would recommend to reinstall Vista to start fresh again. There's just no telling what else may be installed on the computer.

What is the brand and model # of the computer? I'll be happy to see if I can find instructions on how you can do a factory restore on it. :)

it's a Dell Inspirion 530S 32-bit. I know a little about computers and went through it all and everything else is OK except this little issue. we don't have an installation disk or anything and it's not really causing any problems but my OCD just can't stand it.:(

Welcome
The factory install as suggested by Brink is the way to go. If for some reason it does not work, Dell has made available an ISO, which allows you to burn an install DVD. You will need a Product Key Number, however.

Yes, with either option you will have to save your stuff. In addition after the new install, you will have to install all the updates etc.
Be sure to save your stuff, they will be lost.
Software cannot be backed up. You must download them again, or use your CD. You may need product code numbers for software that was paid for.
