hello, im using vista, and there is a hidden administrator account, should i rename it to something else or just leave it administrator, cause ive been wondering which one to use for daily usage, the administrator account, or your own account...

Leave the hidden account alone. It is there for problem situations. Create a new Adm account, give it a name and password of your choice and enjoy the OS.

but do you rename the hidden account? or somekind of password protection to it? cause its kinda headache if u have 2 admin accounts in one comp. hmm...

That hidden account is suppose to be hidden. Unless you did something you should not even know that it is there. I will try to get you some additional documentation.

I assume that we are talking about the same thing, because the hidden account is suppose to be just that hidden. But in any event, if you are referring to the true hidden account follow these instructions.

Before you attempt anything of this nature, make sure to make a system restore point. You may not like the outcome and will want to return to what you have now.

Before you attemp this, be sure that you do in fact have another administrator account that you can use, for everyday purposes.

I would leave it named administrator. If you follow the instructions in the excellent tutorial that I gave you above, you will not even know that it is there.

If you named your everday account Administrator, I suggest that you change the name of that account. Probably the best way is to open another administrator account, calling it another name, perhaps your name or something meaninful to you. When all set up delete the administrator account that you have been using (NOT THE HIDDEN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). There will no longer be any confusion.

Leave the UAC on. It is annoying at times, but it is there for your protection. To warn you of possible errors. I leave mine on, and am glad that it is there.

I do not know much about you, but everyone, including myself have bad days. If you are young you may have a bad day at school or you are pissed off at your folks. If you are older you may have a bad day with the kids or a bad day at work. You may be on your computer and because the UAC is off, you do something without thiniking. Take my advice leave it on, its for your own good.

Other posters are going to come by and explain to you why I am wrong. I may be wrong, but I have the safety that I want. The choice is up to you.

One benefit of this Forum is someone like yourself, come here with one question. With that one question, you will get many answers. You have to choose for yourself. If you want to use the adminsitrator account, that is up to you.

To avoid confusion you may want to change the name of the other adm account, or to hide it. I am here to help you. I will give you any advice that you ask for; but you must make the choices.

Think about it. What do you want to do? If I have the answer, I will help you.

no from wat i mean was the uac ur implying, ur leaving it on, i mean those annoying pop ups and stuffs lol.

but thx for the admin account think, im using the hidden admin account and renaming it to something else for security purposes, plus i dont like it whenever my admin account is being exposed or someone might change the password to it or something...

There is no real right or wrong. You do whatever makes your comfortable and gives you the most enjoyment. I am glad that I was able to help, even in a little way.

kay, but why microsoft decided to make it hidden, i mean xp, administrator was availabe to use, and, i was thinking
was the older OS like 95, 98, use admin account, or was it like you can create a new account, cause i cant remember using the older OS...lol...

Every new OS has changes. All the changes made by Microsoft, in their opinion was for your safety or enjoyment. The feel that the Hidden Admin account, should remain hidden and that it should not be used on a daily basis. They feel that it has too much power and if you do not know what you are doing you are going to damage your OS.

Microsoft knows that there are people who know a lot about computers and those that do not know as much. If a person has knowledge and feels he can operate the computer with out the annoying UAC advice, they can make the necessary changes. XP did not give this choice and a lot of people made changes to the OS and ran into problems.

The older systems did not have the built in Admin Account, this is new for Vista and is included in Windows 7, also.

XP did not give out which choice? if ur implying UAC, well i havent tried UAC from Windows 7 yet, but i heard its better...in terms of UAC, i think XP could have better security with UAC as well...

I agree. I had Vista for a year, and now I am using Windows 7, UAC is easier and is much more user friendly.
