VGA and Business Vista...Help!

Good day to you all.

I have upgraded my windows XP to Vista ( Business version 32 bit...cuz I got it for free :D) , so I am having problem with the VGA card. The operating system won't recognize my Gforce 6600 card and still saying Standared VGA Card. I also tried to run (182.08_geforce_winvista_32bit_english_whql) but no changes.

Is this problem because of Vista Business version? if yes, is it even possible to solve it?

Have you tried to manually install the drivers?

If not then go to device manager
right click on the device and select update driver.

Alternativley install the cd that came with the card.

Thanks for replying.

I did that few times and it would say that Standard VGA Graphics Adapter is up to date, and unfortunately there is no CD for the card because it came w/ the laptop. In addition, the CDz that came w/ the laptop only works on XP version.

make sure you have the current driver from nvidia downloaded to your computer--preferable from nvidia website (i am not keen on nvidia, but i would think they would have the drivers for laptops as well on the website).

try going to device manager and uninstalling the standard vga drivers (as those are generic microsoft drivers). after you do, your screen will probably revert to 640x480, but don't worry.

after you've uninstalled the standard vga drivers, if the computer auto detects "new" hardware (the graphics card), stop the auto install of the drivers. go to the downloaded nvidia drivers and install. you'll probably have to reboot and it should be fine afterward.

For the most part they don't. Like ATI they prefer that you get drivers for laptop video cards from the laptop manufacturer. Only problem is that most of the laptop manufacturer's are rather lackadaisical about updating what is available. That being said the best place for Nvidia laptop drivers is here,

Just pick the driver version you want. May also need to download the modded INF (link is on the same page as the actual driver) to get it installed, but in most cases it is already included in the driver package.

Thanks a lot mpcrsc562 & stormy13. I think that your ideas are the best for this problem, but since I am still Newbie, which I hate it, I can't stop the windows from automatically installing the driver when I restart the laptop. I tried many ways and nothing worked, and some ppl suggest to try Plug and Play, but I am not sure if this is gonna work or no.
