Solved video card upgrade for my ASUS X1700 ?

I think my old case, build it yourself, has a 500 watt PSU in it. I might be able to work on that this weekend. But as I said, lots of things going on right now, this will have to wait.

I have several APC ups. I tried several wall sockets to. The PSU fan doesn't turn over. The same UPS and wall socket work fine for my other computers.

Card arrived today. The box say 450 wat PSU with 12 volt current rating of 24Amps. I'll keep it for future PC builds.

Hmm, really, which card exactly, as NVidia says 400.

ASUS ENGT430. The 'build it yourself' cases I have use too small PSUs as well. So me getting another bare ones computer is going to have to wait until January.

Yes the card draws 75W, ontop of the rest of the system, which is roughly another 150-175W.

Nvidia cards are your best low piowered cards.

I would honestly try your card out, or get a gt 610m or 620 card, they only require 300W.

The one that says needs 450 watts PSU ?

I'll look at the Nvidias when I get the chance.

I've had problems with rebates...

Anyway, I was looking at newegg and tigerdirect earlier and found some nice kits for a reasonable price. I'll upgrade the video card in my current computer, and buy a DIY kit from tigerdirect. Doesn't look like cpu heat transfer grease is included, I'll add it into the order.

This looks interesting for a video card:
Newegg.com - SPARKLE 700010 GeForce 210 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

This is the DIY kit I am thinking about buying.

I'm not a faN of the case and power supply, the psu is where i spend good money as it'll last multiple upgrades if chosen correctly.

The oem cpu/fan has a tim pad pre-applied, wh8ch is just fine for stock hsf.

The EVGA GeForce 210 512 meg is installed. The fan is small and noisy, but not loud. Video is stable so far. I'll have to wait and see what it is like after several hours of gaming.

Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-1310-LR GeForce 210 512MB 32-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

If that one works okay, I'll try the 1 gig card, same watt requirements.

The 1 gig version: Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1312-LR GeForce 210 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

I read the definition of CUDA core, but I'm still not sure what that means. What is a CUDA core ?

Definately had to use the low profile bit to get it to fit. The VGA part came off easily.

I didn't pay much attention to it before, but this computer has a PCI-E small card that plugged into the video card via a small cable. The verbiage on the smaller card says ANT next to each small rg connector. Is this a tv in antenna ?

Honestly, the difference between the 512 and 1gig card will only be seen a huge resolutions, so unless youre gaming at like 2100x1080, it wont matter at all.

You may have a tv antenna/coax cable input on there.

Some of the online MMOs I play have increased their graphics so a bigger card is required for certani zones.

As for the ANT. connectors, they are much smaller than standard RG rf cables.

The ant. is antenna. I pulled the card, when I put in the 1 gig video card, no fan on it, and removed the extra card. The smaller card is a wireless card. Don't care for it so out it went. Since the 1 gig EVGA hasn't a fan, the only noise my computer makes now is the cpu fan.
