virgin media email name

Hi if this is the wrong forum please advise so I can redirect.
I have just changed to virgin broadband from orange [ freeserve]. this means I have gone from a phone line to a cable supplied email service.
when I was with orange I could send and receive emails via my domain service provider ie email account was set to pop.***studio.co.uk and smpt.freeserve.co.uk and
for freeserve mail pop.freeserve.co.uk smpt.freeserve.co.uk

now with virgin I can receive from the above pop settings but the smpt understandably has to be set as smpt.virginmedia.com
that makes sence but what does not is that emails sent all arrive at there distination as have been sent by ******@verginmedia .com not from ****studio ect ect
this is because i have had to set the outgoing server settings to my outgoing server requires authentication and log on as ****@virginmedi.com and log on using spa.
this the only way that virgin as smpt will allow mail out and of course the mail arrives as from virginmedia not freeserve or ***studio.co.uk
if you follow this does anyone know how to set up a email address other than virgin one but send it via virgin??

Virgin doesn't require outgoing authentication.

Try the following smtp without the authentication box ticked - smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Well well, how very interesting that indeed works and fixes the sender address problem, two questions arise,
1 can I use this blueyonder as SMTP with out any problems?
2 virginmedia [ hereafter known as VM] do defiantly need authentication turned on if they are the SMTP, their set up instructions say so and if you don't then emails don't get sent.
if the pop3 is VM the you need to tick the same as incoming,
or if the pop3 is not VM you have you put in a VM user name and password and tick the log on using SPA
why is that? is because there is some connection with VM and Goggle mail?
