1. >>>> it seems my service pack isn't quite service pack 2

Do you not know which SP level you have ?
If you don't know for sure......
Start button > Computer > tool bar, System Properties > under Windows Edition, it tells you which service pack level you have.

If you do need SP2, here is the download link :
Download details: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - ALL Language Standalone (KB948465)

If you fail to install SP2, consider posting to this Tech forum :

2. I started with IE7, then IE8, and now IE9 final version.
Personally, I don't see any advantage IE9 has offered.
To me, it is not any more faster than IE8, as most IE9 users claim.
My point ? You don't really miss much without IE9.

That said, you should have your SP2 installed, IE9 or no IE9.

Here's the problem, I've already tried all of microsoft methods on uninstalling service pack 2 (which is the service pack I curently have) but none seem to work. I use belarc and it tells me that I'm missing 11 updates all of which windows says does not apply to my system. I downloaded the prerequisite updates and both say that I don't need them.

X-AMP,
Whenever there are multiple people responding to your post, and you want to reply to one of them, please do one of the following :

1. Start with the person's name, then your reply..... or,
2. click the " Quote " button under that person's post, then reply. Just like what I did here.

That way, we know to whom you are addressing.
Why ?
It is because if you are replying to Kesume, I will not butt in and answer. I'll wait for Kesume to respond first.
Thank you.

Your reply " tried it and it didnt change anything " did not indicate which person you were replying to.

Excellent post t-4-2,
It sure is confusing to me sometimes, who the response is intended for, but I just take it generally!
If that suits you, good idea t-4-2.

Roy69 I've try those already, resolution 3 ended with "update doesn't apply to your system". Here's the thing, I see service pack 2 in updates installed but the option to uninstall is not available. Some how I have a feeling this may have something to do with the beta all those years ago :(

Mark down the date SP2 was installed.

>>>> the option to uninstall is not available.

To uninstall SP2......

Open Features and Programs > left column, View Installed Updates > wait for loading > scroll down to find " Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB948465) > right click > Uninstall.

Mine was installed on 8/17/2009. Using the date as reference, I can find mine in View Installed Updates window......

T-4-2, that's what I was trying to explain, I can't do that because the option to uninstall is unavailable, the button is greyed out and when I right click I get no options.

Might have corrupted files.

Run system file check. See if it finds any corrupted files, and if found, it will try to repair them.

Start button > search box type cmd > look up, RIGHT click on cmd.exe > click Run As Administrator > in that black and white cmd window, type at the flashing prompt sfc /scannow > press ENTER key.
Note : there is a Space between "sfc" and "/".
Sit back and wait. It will take some time.
When done, it will tell you the score.
It will tell you either your system has no integrity violation, or that it finds corrupted files but unable to repair them.
Exit cmd window.
Reboot ( re-start your computer )

Try to see if the " uninstall " option is still grayed out.

My Computer

T-4-2, done that already, didn't need anything repaired.

Hi, we seem to go in circles! t-4-2 suggestion was a good one.
I wonder, other than what you have mentioned so far, what have you tried?
So that we have an idea what not to recommend!
You have tried sfc /scannow, have you tried a clean boot? Etc
Let us know roughly the items you tried like sfc, please.
It would help me & I am sure t-4-2, or any other member who is looking on to narrow our searches for the conclusion.
Thank you.
