Solved Vista constantly freezing

Hi there,

I am hoping there is someone that can help me solve an issue I have been having with my computer. Over the last couple of months, the computer has been freezing. It all started with the BSOD but that has stopped and now the whole system is freezing. Sometimes it will freeze right when I log in, sometimes I can work on it for 10-15 minutes before it freezes and sometimes I can work for a couple of hours before it freezes. I end up having shut the computer off at the cpu and start all over. The only time it does not freeze is when I am running in safe mode. This is what I have done so far:

- Removed any programs I thought might be the problem, ie., Windows Live Movie Maker, Skype, Logitech webcam etc.
- Did a registry clean using Eusing Registry Cleaner
- Cleaned up any errors using Errorend

I am totally at a loss at what might be causing this problem and I'm hoping there is someone out there that can help me out. I have attached the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 file.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum..

You have 56 minidump files and yes that's a lot I will start going through them in a couple of minutes. First you need to do 2 things.

1. Run a full updated scan using your anti-virus

2. Download malwarebytes and run a full scan here is the link and use the free version.

Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download

Please give us the results of these two scans as soon as possible...

Please DO NOT use any registry cleaner they can them selfs cause a lot of problems within your system. Remove it from your system and as we go we will show you and tell you what you can use.

Thank you Americancritic for helping me out with my computer problem. My apologies for taking so long to reply but it has literally taken me all night to do a virus scan and download and do a full scan using malwarebytes.

My antivirus scan (Shaw secure) came out clean...no viruses etc.

Malwarebytes came up with 10 errors, however, I had to do the scan in safe mode because my system kept freezing. I was actually surprised that I was able to get through a full virus scan using Shaw secure without the system freezing.

I cleaned up the bad files that malwarebytes detected and shut down my system. I then logged back on and started responding to your email and the my computer froze again so I'm now back to working in safe mode.

Your second reply with the bug check analysis is all greek to me! LOL! When you asked me what wireless am I using do you mean what wiresless router? If so, I am using Cisco. I've never had any other wireless router connected to this pc before so I'm confused as to why Linksys would be showing up. The only thing I can think of is that my husband's work laptop is 'connected' to the wireless and maybe they have linksys at work??

I have attached the txt file from the malwarebytes scan just in case you need it.

It's 11:20pm here so I am shutting down for the night....I'll check back in the morning.

Thanks again for all your help :)

Hello

I suggest that you go to your anti-virus website and use there uninstaller and remove it from your system.

Then I suggest you download MSE, I will give you the link and it's free and a lot better then a lot of anti-virus sites out there. Here is the link...

Anti-Malware, Virus, Spyware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

I will look at your minidump in a minute to see what's going on and why your system is acting up.

From now on run malwarebytes and your anti-virus once a week so it will cut way down on anything getting into your computer, but after we get it running the way it should first...

Tom

Hi jcrewe,
Please download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.

Hi Americancritic and Jacee,

thank you both so very much for all your help. Unfortunately, I was unable to do alot of what you suggested as my system would not allow me to download anything in safe mode and when running in normal mode the whole system would feeze as soon as the system loaded. I ended up backing up my entire system onto an external drive in safe mode and had to do an entire system recovery and restore the whole computer back to its factory settings and then reinstall all my programs and move all my files from the external drive back onto the computer. So far, everything is working great. It was a pain in the butt having to do all that work to recover the system and it took me all day to do it but at least everything is working now.

Thanks again so very much for taking time out of your day to help me out....you're assistance is greatly appreciated :)
