Vista not detecting Radeon HD 5450

The .net framework is version 3.5
He should be installing System Update Readiness tool tonight.

MSE is in the system tray, but when I try to use it it gives me an error message saying: "Couldn't start the security Essentials service" "The specified service dows not exist as an installed service".

I'll just have him reinstall it and see if that fixes it.

I did notice in one of the photos of the Radeon HD 5450 512MB that...

That's not the video card. The 5450 I have isn't available on Newegg (atleast not that I can see). Mine only has one HDMI and one single-linked DVI input.

You might be mistaken. nVidia as well as ATI don't make graphics cards therefore you don't look for cards in their name. They only make the chips. Other manufacturers such as MSI & Sapphire take those chips as well as other parts and put together the cards. So provided that the chip is still being actively produced it is probably being sold by someone and even after it's discontinued it will still undoubtedly be sold by the manufacturers until they run out. If the model has been discontinued for a few years then you are probably right.

Well I looked on Newegg for any 512mb HD 5450's and none of them looked like my exact card, so I guess it has been discontinued for some years?

My apologies for using the wrong acronym (MSI) for Microsoft Security Essentials. Let us know how things turn out.

Have you reset your CMOS? AKA used the mobo jumpers or removed the battery?

if yes, It's your psu. The old 300W was just enough to power it before but degradede over time so now it won't work.

Get a 350- 400W power supply, theyre cheap and easily found. Until you do thast you are going to be running in circles.

Yes, nvidia and ati actually make cards, but they just go to large companies like Dell or HP. Theyre listed under OEM Models on their websites.

Do yourself a huge favor and get/borrow a larger psu and try it.
