Vista Reboots on shutdown

Howdy folks,
I just built a PC with the following components.......
Asustek S775 Intel G33 ATX GLAN motherboard
CoolerMaster Centurion 5 Black/Silver Case
OCZ Technology 500W STEALTHXSTREAM POWER SUPPLY
OCZ Technology 2X1GBKIT 240PIN PC2-8500 DDR2 1066MHZ SLI READY
Asustek V-70 Low Profile Quiet Intel LGA775 CPU Cooler
Samsung SpinPoint 320GB 7200RPM S300
Intel quad core CPU
some RAM and bought windows vista OS

I have a problem in that anytime i shutdown the computer it goes ahead shuts down ....fans shut off etc but then restarts about 5 seconds later. No errors show up on the screen at all.
I have come here for some help in diagnosing this problem.

Hi

Sometimes this points to an incorrect wiring problem on the MoBo power block, where you have the Power and Reset wires connected. Make sure you don't have anything crossed in there first.

I have come here for some help in diagnosing this problem.

Go into your motherboard BIOS, and check the Power Management settings. More specifically, check that the "Power On after Failure" (or something similar) is OFF, and that your wakeup events (such as RTC, WOL, etc.) are all turned off.

The easiest way to confirm is to instruct the BIOS to load either Optimal or Failsafe defaults.

If after all of this, you still have a problem, then there may very well be faulty wiring, or the motherboard itself is "bad". Possibly the power supply is shorting in some fashion as is incorrectly sending the "power up" signal.

Have you tried resetting your BIOS to defaults?

Ok, now I understand why my initial advice failed. Perhaps I should have been more specific - my apologies.

Do not change any other settings other than those I specify here.

1. Shutdown your computer (if you want to force a shutdown, hold down the power button until the hardware shutsdown)
2. Turn it on again, and during POST before Windows boots, press the DEL key (some computer BIOS programs require that you press F2 instead).
3. When in the BIOS, locate the Power Management settings.
4. Make sure that all WakeUp events such as RTC, WOL, etc. (as I mentioned earlier) are turned off.
5. "Save and Exit" the BIOS
6. Allow Windows to boot
7. Use the correct Shutdown procedure. If all is well, the computer should shutdown correctly.

If not, then enter the BIOS again as I describe above in steps 1 & 2. Find the command to "Load Optimal" settings, then "Save and Exit" again. If the computer again fails to shutdown normally, try using the BIOS "Failsafe" defaults.

If it STILL reboots when you ask it to shutdown, then I suggest you call in your warrantly and have the the motherboard replaced.

samething happend to me i restored all my bios settings to there previous settings and i no longer have shutdown issues

I was working on neighbors PC for her and it would not shut down properly, just was in a loop of shut down, restart, i finally pulled the cmos battery , waited 5 min, and then reinstalled it and the Bios reset itself and now shuts down correctly.
