Vista Ultimate 64 8800GT problem

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, my computer is randomly crashing in games (Company of Heros / Crysis). The video freezes but the sound continues for a bit, I have to Control-Alt-Deleted to exit though task manager.I have turn down the graphics for both games i have rivatuner to turn up my fans 100% on my GPU so heating is not the problem. I have updated my driver for my video card. Can some one please help! system spec are listed below

Make sure you are not overclocking anything! Also make sure your PSU is up to snuff. Check your voltages. Those are the biggest problems with games crashing.

this motherboard does not like 4 sticks of ram - try with 2 sticks in dual channel configuration. what is type of your memory and fsb? try lower fsb.

sorry to disagree with you vantim, but other users have reported that it sometimes necessary to enable overclocking with this mobo and play with ram timings manually - the auto settings in the BIOS have problems.

That's quite alright. You not really disagreeing. enabling oc'ing to set timings is different from what I meant. Lowering the fsb is what I was eluding to anyway

Ah, Will i'm RMAING the board now (as of 2 days ago) when i get the new one i will play with speeds and the amount of ram if i have 6400 800mhz do i drop it down to 5300 speeds?. question if the ram is not getting enough power won't the computer just blue screen error?

Crysis is extremely hard on even the fastest GPU's on the market. Even a pair of 8800ultras in SLI have a hard time running that game with the graphics set at extremely high. Your poor 8800GT could've been overstressed and brought the whole system down. If you didn't crash at other times I would've looked elsewhere.

Crysis and Company of Heroes, and its the same crash and alot of people are running both games with specs and they crash once a day or not at all, i crash 9 times a hour or more.

i didn't over clock anything and my psu is a zalman 750w which should more capable of running a single 8800gt. what up about asus p5k premium not like 4 slot of ram? never heard of that.

This is the first forum that I've seen that mobo's don't like 4 sticks of ram. But it seems these people know what they are talking about.

If I would've guessed about the ram. I would've blamed Vista not the motherboard

Not sure what the deal is with the 4 gig issue, talked to a friend of mine and he never had that issue. I only had the issue when running my 8800gt card, if I had my 7600 card in the computer, it ran fine with 4 gigs. I found that I needed the KB 929777 patch to fix the problem, once installed everything works great.

Fear not my good people, its not your machines ITS VISTA. I have company of heros on my machine as well. On one HD I have XP installed on my other HD I have Vista 64 installed. For testing purposes I put the same programs on each HD and test them. XP has never crashed even when I've maxed out all my settings. Vista 64 is worse than a woman, I can run it for HOURS with not a hickup, then all of sudden the game goes black with just sound playing and I have to alt tab out to close the program and Im getting msg's stating there problems with my display drivers. I'd love to think it was as simple as updating the drivers but they are already updated. Here are my specs just so people know what I'm running: Vid Card: Asus 8800GTX, Mobo: Asus P5K3 Deluxe, Mem: 4gigs DDR3, HD: 3 500 gig Western Digital , Chip: Quad Core 2.66, PSU: 1000 watts.

I never have an issue in xp. All my problems come from Vista so I refuse to beleive that there is an issue with my system when I run smooth as can be in xp but in vista have to do nothing but trouble shoot. Don't get me wrong I love new technology and Vista looks great but there are still to many issues with it to make it ur main operating system (especialy if your avid gamer). In my opinion

Ever since I had vista installed my system has had "unexpected shutdowns" and its in games like Wow and Counterstrike Source. I can play Crysis on the highest settings for along time and the gpu never rises above 60c.

Vista is great to toy around with, but until its been out for a LONG time (probably when they are ready to release the NEW OS lol) there are going to be a lot of headaches ... Until then, I'll be tweeking and trouble shooting lol

Strange I have never had any game lockup or Vista x64 lockups for that matter yet.

Everything runs as good as XP did, go figure...

It's more like Video Card "Driver" issues. It's been anything but stable since the launch of Vista. Especially SLI.

I have similar problems. My 8600gt card works fine, but as soon as I installed an 8800gt card and reinstalled the drivers, all hell broke loose. I won't even start to describe what happened, but I took out the 8800gt card after a few hours of fiddling around, slapped my 8600gt back in, and all was well with the world once again.

I did all the usual stuff trying to get the 8800gt card to work - check for latest drivers, making sure the AV or firewall wasn't interfering, etc etc. (I've been doing this sort of tweaking/trouble-shooting for years now so please give me a little credit.) I think there is a problem with nVidia's driver for their 8800gt card as far as Vista x64 is concerned. I don't know what it is, but I hope they fix it soon.
