Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

My advice... The free ones are best.
Get AVG anti-virus, spyware and anti-rootkit. All are generally very good.
Norton is irritating, MCaffe gets infected itself, and I generally dont like the rest.

*Note* AVG actually did find a worm hiding in my Mcaffee archive.

hmmmm... Well thanks for all the info Guys, I am currently using NOD32 security and it works great.. it is very fast, light on comp resources and I like all the Advanced Setup Features.. you can even go into advanced and chance what you want. then click hide advanced settings so someone else wont accidentally change a setting.. although I'm only one on my PC, but I did that for my brothers cuz he ahs many on his... so far NOD32 gets my vote, it and Kasper are both good, casper messed things up on vista for a while.. BitDefender was lame. it won a few awards but I totally DIDN'T like it.. seemed cheap, bad layout.. looks like a middle schooler made the display's and icons.. NOD32 is proffesional looking

So thank you everyone for your input,, but xguntherc has found what he needs.. and for you guys fighting.. ur right. best AV is ur own brain.. I on'y go to the site's I need to. Worst places I go are Myspace and to torrent sites.. so thanks again.

I think you might need to read your original post again.

It's quite clear you said that xguntherc doesn't need any security suite or similar products and as far as the websites you look at, I am not concerned or have any interest in your browsing habits whatsoever, it's xguntherc we're trying to help, NOT YOU!!!

not sure why people have to swear at others when they disagree, but guess ray found out the result :)

never liked avg after it told me some suspect files were ok - just some trojans :(

Hi. I use Zone Alarm Security Suite on my XP computer and like it. When I bought my Vista 32 bit, I used the 32 bit Vista version of Zone Alarm and like it. I just bought my X64 Vista and Zone Alarm does not make a 64 bit version. Wanting a combo AV and Firewall, I tried a number of programs and didn't have too much luck. Trend Micro, for example, told me the reason I was having so many troubles with their product was that I had the beta version of SP1 installed and that I would either have to uninstall SP1 or their program. I opted for their program. At the moment I'm using AVG for everything but firewall and I'm using Windows for that. Satisfactory but I do like the way ZA works on my other machines and if you have 32 bit Vista, you might try them.

Norton 360 is the way to go, you don't know its there, anybody who tells you it slows your system is telling porkies,

Theres a new version in the pipeline Norton 360 2, my licence runs out in two months I'll be changing to version 2 then, you can't beat an excellent system and reasonably priced too.

I'm using Sophos Anti Virus. Its a pretty good one to compared to Norton 03/05 (used to have those). I get a free subscription from where I work in the summers.

I have used Trend Micro Internet Security, for many of years now on my old XP,XPMC and now on vista, ok it cost a few quid, but it runs in the back ground with getting in the way of doing stuff, you can custom scan, it has Wireless Home Network Monitoring if a virus has landed it will shut your internet off, and overall its a dam good suite. you get 3 licenses for the cost of it.

i would recommend it to anyone and i do.

I have just put AVG on a vista laptop, for one of the lads with me, cos he is a cheapskate but he has had nothing but problems from day one, it slow the laptop down quite a lot and overall its cheap

hi thegerrymon

You might like to checkout Comodo's free firewall. It's a very good one from what I understand.

Neil
Hi Neil. Thanks for the link to the Comodo firewall. I installed it tonight. After installation, when it asked me to reboot, I got an error message that my operating system was missing. Yikes! However, when I cold started the machine, Windows loaded in normally, well sort of anyway, as I was asked by Comodo to approve a lot of M$ system programs. I guess I'm spoiled by Zone Alarm which recognizes almost all of those programs and pre-approves them. Nonetheless, it seems to be working well and a scan I did with it found 3 malware programs that AVG apparently didn't. I do feel better with it running rather than the Windows Firewall. So thanks again.

I notice you have a 32 bit machine. I tried Trend Micro on my 64 bit and had lots of problems. Tech rep at Trend Micro said M$ was messing them up with Service Pack 1 and suggested uninstalling SP1 until they could work out bugs. I elected to uninstall Trend Micro but might look at it again when I hear they have worked the bugs out for 64 bit systems.

I am running trend on a Toshiba Satellite P200 1G8 with 4Gb and yeah it runs very well, nothing gets in the way of it and it does not get in the way of anything i do, and i run quite a few network apps from it, as i am running a network in Iraq right now.

works well.

Any Norton version before 2007 was poor, present ones are top notch and highly recommended, they've got their house in order and created a great program.

Parents use it on XP, took tech support 1 month to get back to me with the suggestion of uninstalling it,

great for when u have lots of memory and not play games or are a numpty, but can not recommend norton for anyone who plays FPS games :)

I told you my opinion, theres no need to be insulting, and its only a numpty that would take a month to uninstall Norton.

And I still recommend Norton to anyone, either 360 or 2008.
