I really dont think you will find that exact one, a google for "3.5mm surface mount jack" turns up quite a few similar.

It should be quite easy to adapt one with a bit of wire and some epoxy resin, or you could try taking the one you removed to Maplins Wigan or CPC Preston (I dont think there is anywhere in Chorley) and seeing if they could match it.

Lol! Quite easy with wire and epoxy if you know how!! Tbh, I wouldn't know where to start on that one. I guess I can take the board to one of the places you have mentioned and see how I get on. Thanks for your help.

Lol!!! Cheers! I've only just started getting into repairs (this is a friends laptop) I'm in the merchant navy and away a lot, but redundancy looms....so trying to get experience for future work possibly...so I don't have a clue where/how to source parts....But if you need any soldering doing give me a shout pmsl!!!

I have a couple suggestions, in case you can't find the part you want.

1. Purchase a used laptop for parts. this can be very handy if you need a new display, keyboard, battery, powersupply, or other parts down the road, and unless this is a common problem, which I doubt, you have a very good chance of finding a dead laptop with a good connector pretty cheap (cheap is relative, but accurate if you consider all the extra parts that will come with it)

2. If the connector next to it is same type but isn't being used, remove it and use it.

3. Get a universal "inline" connector and attach it to the Printed circuit board so it works like a permanently installed dongle. Tying a knot in the wire can prevent it from being pulled (knot located inside case, larger then opening in case where it exits), causing damage to board. This will be ugly, but functional as a last resort.

Naturally finding the proper connector would be the best way to go, but these are some methods I've used to get more life out of old equipment without spending a "cost prohibitive" amount of money to fix it.

Actually, depending on what audio device your using this jack for, you might be able to find one that connects via usb. I've seen usb headsets (for example), so you wouldn't need the audio out and mic input jacks.

I doubt you'd need to use an entire "sound card", but that too sounds like a viable solution.

Hi guys. Thanks for all your suggestions. The laptop is quite new, so ugly is not the preferred option if possible, so also buying a 'dead' one would be to costly I think. I may use the mic jack instead, but will speak to my friend first before doing so. The external sound USB is also a good option, I hadn't though about that! I shall though keep trawling for a replacement, at least for a couple of days!
