Which is a better one?

GTX 295 slaughters any current card and the 4890 is no match for it.

Please look at all the driver problems people are having with ATI cards. I helped my brother build a system and I recommended an ATI card and I am very sorry I did. He has had nothing but problems. I got an Nvidia 275 and haven't had the slightest bit of trouble with it.

what it all boils down to is how much YOU want to spend on a video card.

i spent $100 and got a ATI 4670 HD 1GB DDR3 PCI-E card, personally i am happy with it, it has ran everything i have thrown at it. yeah sure it is not gddr5 but it stills run great and is afordable.

have a look here and what there is

no its not true....... both company's produce great cards, Nvidia cost more, b/c its a true ''plug & play'' card, & driver support is superb.

ATI has raw power & they're cards are much cheaper for comparable performance, but driver support is shoddy, & ATI cards sometimes suffer on the H/W level with some setups.....

so both company's have pro's & cons....IMO ;)

As far as the loose cooler, take that up with who made the card, don't blame ATI becauase one of the partners QC isn't up to par.

erm..... my 260 squeals.??, your point..??, its a known transistor fault which changes NOTHING!!, it is not loud, & does not hamper performance.

im not slating ATI so please jump off your ''fanboy'' bandwagon, anyone who wishes to belive ATI has no issues can go right ahead, but your only lying to yourselves....:sarc:

many have no problems with their cards, & enjoy high performance at a low cost, but many DO NOT!!, i could count on one hand the amount of Nvidia troubles ive heard about in the last 2 years...... but if i was going to count ATI issues i'd need everyone on this forum to lend me their fingers & toes.....

so....as i said, there are pro's & cons to both company's but IMO its (70% > 30%) in favor of Nvidia

I am interested in computers so i just wanted to know,
is the nvidia 295 or ati 4890 better?and by what specs.

your 600 watter won't run a 295 , if that helps

-the 295 is a 2 gpu card , like CF\SLI but on one card and is the fastest one slot card at this time. so it's more than just bench marks.

-the 295 should be 50-70% faster = more fps, over a 4890 given equal tasks and driver surport
-295 is 2x 275's at lower clocks on one card
-4890 = 275 depending on the game , cpu ,settings
-2x 4890[cf] would be better, than a 295 , 4890 has more memory.
-2x 275[sli] would be better than a single 295 if the board can do sli

-better = cooler , overclock's higher , if the game does not have multi gpu ,the one card will run faster , no custom drivers , if one craps out you can still have a working machine ,

Hi guys,

I've built, re-built, transformed and destroy computers all my life and tried hundreds of different graphic cards in thousands of computers and toay, I'm married to nVidia and using the MSI flavored GTX 295. I am surprised on how good it is and what a great body they did to it. temperature is not an issue and trully, only one of them is more than enough for today games. I play Grid, WoW, Dirt, Crisys and some other hi-end graphic games with all or at least most of the video options at max and the result is way more than enough (never below the 30 and up to 140 fps in every game). I know ATI has a great product too in the latest cards no doubt about that but IMHO, nVidia is the way to go. I don't know.. it just feel right. Every time I've used ATI in the past, I ended selling the cards to my friends after a couple of weeks. I just didn't like them for myself.

BTW you need a 750W peek PSU for a single gtx 295 but a 850W is recommended. If you can, and have the motherboard for that, buy a 1000W so you are ready for a second video card in the future (1200W if you a running more that 7 coolers and 4 HDDs).

Cheers,

That's not an adequate comparison since we'll talking about a single GPU!

It's also a good place to prove your point as well!!!

My point - even though Nvidia "officially" recommemds a 680 Watt Power Supply (GeForce GTX 295), tests show that a "single" GTX295 GPU comsumes less then 470 watts under full load. In fact it shows that it consumes less than a 4870x2.

No one's mentioning how many amps have to be on the 12v rail?

According to this article in one of my links - BFG GTX 295 Review: Dual-GPU showdown - Page 14 - Power Consumption & Conclusion

BFG states the minimum power requirements as a 680W PSU that has a combined 12V current rating of 46A or more.

But, again, reports have shown that a single 295 draws less then 480 watts under full load. Haven't seen what the amp loads are though.

Incidentally my little ole Antec Neo HE 550 watt Power Supply meets that amp rating.
