Solved Windows defender error 0x80070424.

I just began to recover my computer after it was hit with a pretty nasty bug. This was one of those rouge security system viruses so I went through my computers files found it and deleted it. It messed up my registry so I had to fix that, then I got Microsoft Security Essentials which cleaned up a whole bunch of nasty lol. So my little Acer is doing fine, except for one thing, my Windows Defender is refusing to start, and every time I try to get it running this message appears.

"Windows defender encounted an error 0x80070424. The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

Can someone please tell me what to do! I'm not a computer whiz kid, but I can sure follow directions!

Welcome
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, you are suppose to turn Defender off. Defender is included with MSE. If you decide to no longer use MSE and still experience the problem, I would follow the above post.

You are very welcome. Your mistake has been made by others, too.
I think that the best security you can have is Security Essentials used with the Free Malwarebytes. Run Malwarebytes once a week to scan for any Malware, which is not always the same as a Virus.
Take care.
